  1. I’ve been thinking for a while that these wild Bayern pronouncements are more about this season than next.
  2. Yes. Different era, very similar feeling to July 1974. And we all know what happened next, so let’s not be suicidal. Yes, the man who made it possible for us to love the game like kids, in a cyclical and corrupt age, will be gone. But we’ll carry on, won’t we?
  3. We’ve been saying this for a season and a half. How long before we accept that this is peak Nuñez? I guess Klopp privately admits it isn’t good enough for a team that wants to win the league and the European Cup. Meanwhile he has to back Nuñez in public.
  4. I’ve seen some offensive things written on this board in the last 20 years but that has taken top spot.
  5. I do take your point. The I only thing I would say is that the lads you mention were starters/subs in the days when there was only one sub. Squads were smaller and when they were no longer starters or subs, they were moved on. I just don’t see these lads ever being starters in our best XI. They’re evidently slower of foot and - just as importantly - slower of thought than Gini or Gravenberch.
  6. I’m also old enough to send you to the bottom of the class for gross abuse of apostrophes.
  7. Nice performance last night. However, I think this is right. I’ve reluctantly concluded that these two just aren’t ever going to be quite at the level we need to challenge for the title and the European Cup (yes, I’m also as old as Elliott, Scanlon and Qansah combined). If they’re happy as squad men, all right, otherwise they’re worth £25m each to the likes of Crystal Palace.
  8. From the Guardian: The only downside on a comfortable afternoon for Klopp’s team was a hamstring injury suffered by Trent Alexander-Arnold that threatens his participation in England’s games against Ukraine and Scotland. Downside?
  9. I saw Tony Adams on that dancing show on the telly once and I don’t think he has the legs any more.
  10. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/aug/15/liverpool-have-swapped-clarity-for-confusion-in-the-transfer-market Andy Hunter has reappeared and written a calm, well-balanced piece that will dispel all the angst from this forum. I was wondering whether we should go and throw a sack of cash at Edwards to get him back rather than spend big on expensive Crystal Palace middleweights.
  11. Yes but, like Suarez, we’d love him if he were our smug, snide s***house.
  12. In keeping with the cheery tone of this thread: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/aug/03/football-transfer-rumours-romeo-lavia-to-end-up-at-manchester-united?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  13. Fabrizio Romano has retweeted his own tweet from three weeks ago saying that we had been talking to Lavia’s agent for a fortnight. That’s five weeks now. So a deal should be ready in ample time for preseason 24/25.
  14. Don’t think so. We’re different from City, Chelsea, PSG and Newcastle in that we have a history and a world-wide profile. That puts us in a bracket with United, Real and Barcelona; perhaps Bayern and Juventus. I expect that rules out a lot of potential buyers. I hate the thought of being owned by a sports-washing state but that’s surely where it’s tending. As someone has said, other supporters will not be so bothered.

    Coutinho

Exactly. I can't believe I opened up the forum page this morning to find the Coutinho thread at the top, although now I have just kept it there.
  16. Can anyone tell me why this thread is new and improved?
  17. I was so determined that this summer I was going to remain aloof, not worry about who we bought and just look forward to next season, led by the greatest manager in the game. It's now the seventh of June, yes, the seventh of June, and I am checking every post on here, following all the twitter crap etc etc. When Salah and Van Dijk were mentioned I though they must be in the bag. Can't the leakers/briefers at the club keep their mouths shut until the business is done? Does anyone have a cure for my condition? I'm going berserk.
  18. Straight after Ibrahimovic's miss I said to my wife that we would win the big cup. A shame I didn't back that up with the bookies.
  19. Yes. Worked with him many years ago. Blue through and through. They nearly all were in the Echo/Post office back then, including some who covered Liverpool full time.
  20. Superb. Well done Arsenal!
