I don’t know what people expect. Nobody (including me) wants our club owned by private equity etc but we want it to be huge. Everyone hates Edwards and Hughes but most were pleased not that long ago when Edwards returned. We hate FSG but wouldn’t want owners like ManU, ManC or Chelsea. FSG are ‘marks’ for agents yet they appointed Klopp. We won the league 15 months ago and we were all delighted that they invested heavily from a position of strength, buying two of the biggest stars in European football (who, against the expectations of both FSG and all us experts on here, turned out to be duds). Yes, Hughes was out of his depth and like many in this ridiculous business has failed ‘upwards’. But there’s a lot of revisionism going on around here at the moment. Today’s favourite flavour seems to be yearning for an omnipotent manager to replace the DOF model. That structure is no more likely to return than the boot room. The ex-player DOF model sounds good when you think of Butragueño, Hoeness, Maldini. Who do you suggest? Anyone have Jon Flanagan’s number handy?

If Iraola doesn’t want to play with a defensive midfielder then he has to do some serious a***-kicking with Szoboszlai, Mac Allister and Gravenberch, and soon. Because at the moment none of them actually merit a place in the team. I feel for Nyoni if the lad is supposed to be dealing with it. I’d give anything for a peak Fabinho or Wijnaldum or both.
