Liverpool boss Benitez eyeing Barcelona whizkid Dos Santos

Liverpool are eyeing a shock move for Barcelona superkid Giovani dos Santos.

The 17 year-old Mexican is regarded as currently Barca's hottest youth product and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez knows he is set to gain his Spanish passport next month.

Dos Santos has been frustrated by the lack of first team chances he's had since being promoted to Frank Rijkaard's senior squad in preseason and came close to joining Olympique Lyon last month.

The talented midfielder is contracted to Barca until 2009 with a buyout clause of £20 million.

I think they can't give a player a pro contract til he's 18 and played 10 first team games.

He plays up front for Mexico, but it's as a withdrawn forward. He's similar to Ronaldinho or Messi.

I think he plays on the right for Barca B.

hmms sounds like a Garcia type of player .... we really need someone like that for the left - so we can really try a 433

just watched a load of clips of him... you can certainly see a bit of Ronaldinho in this guy.. the way he shifts his weight is based directly on his style... he's had some coaching fromt he man... besides that he looks an inteligent player, has an eye for a through ball and has a very nice corss on him. however he does seem a little selfish at times... not too much though.

this guy is the real deal Id say... whatever about a lot of the others, this guy will be very big.

Anyone know does he turn 18 and if he's played any first team games?

Can we offer him a contract now or do we have to wait till the summer?

I'd hope he's gonna turn 18! ;)

He's top top class, it'd be great to get him. The link is dodgy as f*** though, it came from a FansFC link about a week ago with no quotes, not even from a "source"

I think the whole thing is just made up.

i think bojan is their biggest talent in the youth teams, but i also find it hard to believe we will get dos-santos.i also understand his younger brother is THE talent of the family.

however, this is the kind of young talents we should try and sign (the biggest young talents).

if its his younger brother and they're both under 18, we should try to bring them both over

if we are to sign young talent,

1 - we should get them in ASAP so they get used to the English game

2 - we should arrange lots of games either by loaning them to someone like Crewe on the agreement THEY WILL BE PLAYED REGULARLY or we should set up a North England Mini-League

Young players don't just need coaching they need games, and games for the correct kinds of teams

so loaning a striker to sunder land is not a good idea unless he's in the Old fashioned UK striker mould
