A slightly different take on the new owners....

.... First up, let me say that I'm pleased with the takeover - The new owners do appear to be sport fans and they're making the right noises so far.

But I'm just wondering what impact it will have on some of the players already here.... It's no surprise of course that we were looking for large investment, and now we have it and some of this will, it appears be spent on players - I'm guessing around £50m this summer for example but it could be more.

There are one or two who MIGHT be thinking - "S**t! - I could be out here..." - how will it affect them in the rest of THIS season?

I'm thinking possibly Riise, Pennant, Crouch, maybe Gonzalez and Bellamy in particular from the main first team squad, with Sami, Dudek and Robbie coming to the end of their natural careers with us anyway.

Bellamy (for example) seems a little insecure to me - Riise too. I'm not saying these (and the other) players will definitely be out, but what if THEY think that they will be, because of their lack of confidence - how will they perform between now and May as a result?

Valid thoughts or a crock of old schoite?

Don't agree with Crouch, Bellamy, Pennant or Gonzalez. I think the latter three will go. Not sure about Riise.

Go Liverpool Reds!

You forgot (Liverpool Reds) Soccer Club ;)

I would not want any player at the team if they have lost confidence because of competition for their places! Surely they only get to the top if they are so competitive and success driven?

Rafa always wants at least two options for each position - that hasn't frightened off the players you have mentioned has it, so why should this?

Lastly if a player did feel threatened by the competition, wouldn't he want to put himself in the shop window by playing out of his skin from now until the end of the season? I can't see a top team looking at a player without the determination, fight and belief of a winner.

Really don't agree with Crouchy, Bellamy and Gonzalez. 2 of 'em have been playing well and for me, despite often not starting, Crouchy has been one of our best this season. And as for Gonzalez, too early to give up on a young player who has struggled with injury. We gave Kewell over 4 seasons ;)

Riise I think should be one worried takeover or no takeover! He's been poor this season, and it's beyond a blip, it's not just bad form, it's a player who's been found out big time, and regardless of investment I'd hope we look at left backs anyway in the summer!

If players need this takeover to be motivated, then they ain't much use anyway.

What it will mean is that Rafa dosen't have to pick and choose players like he did last summer and scrape pennies together to buy an extra player and be dependant on selling a player to buy (ie Cisse). It was either have Bellamy, Kuyt and Pennant, or just Bellamy and Alves. So to get his 2nd striker, he had to take the cheaper option. That's one thing he can do without, as the cheaper option isn' t really all that.

Our players should be thinking

"I've got to play best I can or else I'm out here"

If they aren't they don't have the right mentality.

They should be doing that already.

LB for definite, possibly our weakest position with Aurelio's inability to go a week without getting injured - Riise aint up to it.

Out of the 3 main strikers the least impressive to me as an actual striker has been Kuyt, running around like a loony not withstanding. Can't imagine he'll go so it will probably be Crouchie as if we have the money I can see us going for Torres, whether he'll come here is another matter.

Pennant has been a disappointment to me so far, whatever you say about taking time to settle he still should be able to get past a CB playing out of position at least once during 90 minutes - Something he never did against Everton. Assuming Mascherano finally gets the go ahead does this mean we are back with Stevie at RW long term?

Worried players should be most of them, competition is only good.

Why is Crouch all of a sudden up for sale. I just find the whole thing odd in the extreme. Now we have new owners, he's the one that 'probably will go'.

And Torres - why?

if there was any player i'd say that wasn't in our reach that now is its got to be villa. he was at anfield twice over christmas.

And Torres - why?

Because out of the three Bellamy is the best and Kuyt was pursued by Rafa for a while so i don't see him going anywhere for a while yet - FWIW I don't think he's going to score enough goals but we'll see.

Torres why? Because he's one of the best strikers around and still only 22(?), he's everything you could want in a striker and he just renegotiated his contract to reduce his buy-out fee to below £20M I believe, he's done this for a reason obviously, and i would prefer him playing for us than against us.

Oh, you cannot keep 4 strikers happy - ever.

The problem with buying a LB is that there aren't many good ones around

honestly can't name many. weird innit?

and torres is s****. can't see the point in going for him. david villa looks twice the player.

so you'd be happy with 20 mill spent on a striker who scores about a goal in 3 the last couple seasons?

Call me old fashined, but I'd expect more for the money than a showpony.

Whether Crouchy stays or doesn't long term, we will have 4 strikers regardless, as we do now.

Yeah, Abidal springs to mind but I've doubts over him too, one over whether he's good enough on the ball and the other is that he's probably a year or two too old to spend big money on.

I've been very impressed with Carlos Salcido every time I've seen him, but I think he prefers to play CB.

Phillipe Lahm is one of the best around and reasonably atainable....

evra was a good buy. was always going to get better with a move to a bigger club.

bale is obviously going to become a cracking player, but it's looking like he's nailed on to go to the mancs. unless of course we could gazump them.
