Liverworld. Is it just me..

There's some reasonable stuff in there, some stuff I could see myself wearing but then you look at the price! It's always at least a tenner more than the most you'd be prepared to pay, sometimes double what a similar, non-LFC-logoed item would retail at. I'm not talking about replica team shirts/posters books and stuff like that but the casual clothing, tops, jackets, jumpers and the like. Some of it's reasonably smart to wear down the pub, show your allegiance off and all that but I'm fecked if I'm paying those prices.

I know we have to compete and all that and it's a major source of revenue but come on, fair's fair; reduce the prices and watch the sales go up. It's not rocket science.

overpriced junk for tourists in jester hats and carrying cameras in the ground/forgetting to sing and asking where Owen is...

I know where he is.

Michael Owen sits about 20 yards from me

I don't think it is any more expensive than other branded sportswear type stuff

Exactly. I deal with LFC products (And other clubs) I can assure you ours is better quality and better priced than most other Premier League clubs. The most over priced items, the kits!!! But we don't set the pricing for ADIDAS stuff.

It's not the actual sportswear I'm on about though. Polo shirts as an example which you know would sell for a tenner down the market are £40 just because they've got some sort of (usually discreet) LFC badge or logo. You know they'll last for 6 months at best whereas for a similar price, you could get a Hugo Boss polo that'll look much smarter and last ten times longer. There's only so much I'm prepared to pay for a club badge.

So close, but replace Owen with The Kop and you have it.

If you don't like the LFC merchandise you're free to buy Hugo Boss or what ever you do like. However the merchandise to me is more about supporting LFC financially than it is about having some fancy stuff to wear....

So you're either a tight wad who would rather give the money to some dodgy market trader with a lorry load of bad sweat-shop seconds rather than to the club you profess to support for their efforts for a few extra quid, or where you live it's 1985.

I type this while drinking from my Istanbul mug and using my LFC mousemat and wearing my favourite LFC socks - because I'd rather THEY had the money than some dodgy trader.

I don't know if this fits you Paul, but I can't help notice at times that it's often the people who complain about Liverworld, Jester hats, poloshirts etc who then later go on to complain our marketing is crap and how come we don't spend more on bringing in players. There's a dichotomy that's unaviodable there.

Thanks for the permission. And I've supported the team all my conscious life and continue to do so every week by, you know, going to the actual games.

Not a tight wad at all and never have been. There's a difference between tight wad and knowing you're being ripped off. Just because the robber looks friendly, there's no need to hand over the money. And please don't assume I've ever complained about the marketing and this dichotomy (whooooo!). If anything, I'm wanting to IMPROVE the marketing by suggesting ways that more people may buy more merchandise if it was more sensibly priced.

Some of the stuff is good, some of it is crap. Most is overpriced.

Exactly

How do people expect the club to compete with the likes of United in relation to merchandising when they won't support the club shop or other shops selling official club merchandise?

Its not to hard to understand that a market trader can sell items less cheap than the official club shop due to the fact his overheads are much smaller.....and most of the time the material he is selling is knock off/replica, so none of the revenue is going to the club...none.

I myself would prefer to spend 20 on a top at the club shop rather than paying 10 to a market trader - at least the club gets most of the cash.

Maybe people should realise that the next time they are posting about why we can't sign the top players anymore while they sit there in their cheap market traders polo shirt.

As for not wearing scarf's or hats because of fashion and looking down on others who wear the clubs colours is really quite sad. If they go their way, the Kop would be full of blokes just standing there in their sunday best - what about the fantastic sight of the scarves in the kop in the 60's??

1. So would I, mate and that's what I'm on about. You CAN'T pay £20 for a top (not that you'd want to wear anyway) as they are at least double that. And the club get enough cash off me through my 2 season tickets and other tickets throughout the season

2. I've NEVER posted that we can't sign the top players ever. And I don't sit there in cheap market trader's polo shirts either, I'm just making the comparison.

3. No mention of scarves or hats or even fashion in my posting at all. If you read the actual post, you'll see I'm wanting to wear the logoed stuff, just I've drawn the line at being exploited to that extent. And lastly, I saw my first game at Anfield in 1965 and I can tell you there are more scarves in the ground now than there ever were.

I called in last year to see for i could pickup something for the kids. Not really a lot in there you can get for two little girls with no interest in football, but i wanted to get them something with Liverpool on it.

In the end i grabbed a couple of Plastic jars with sweets in them. Cost 3 quid each and there was probably 50p worth of sweets in it. Just stuck a Liverpool sticker on it and sell it at a high price. However i do realise that the club needs to raise money through merchandise etc so its understandable. Anfield gets many tourists visiting for games and tours and they have to take advantage of that.

Current and former players have a hand in the manufacture of these goods though, don't they?

It might just be a sticker on a jar, but there's a fair chance Peter Cormack licked the back and Bob Boulder stuck it on.

Details like this are often overloooked...

This is it, like any relatively small enterprise with a reasonably diverse stock, it is going to have to charge premium prices to make money. It doesn't have 1500 stores nationwide like Next (who atre at least as expensive) it cannot buy polo shirts by the zillion and pile them high like asda. Smaller retailers charge more because they have to, they are not high volume traders, they are branded within themselves and so don't sell competing designs or labels, add on the overheads, and what you have is the same sort of prices as if you went to a shop that wasn't part of a huge chain in any town anywhere.

Even if people don't want to buy this stuff they should understand why the pricing is much the way it is.

Only thing I've ever bought from there is a copy of the CL final programme for £5.

The q's pre match are ridiculous as well.

Some good points there but unlike Next, LFC have a HUGE and totally loyal customer base who cannot go and shop at the River Island of Man Utd World or whatever theirs is called. I think they are exploiting that customer base too much. The attitude that "we have to compete" allows and encourages that exploitation. Like I say, I pay enough through tickets and such, I draw the line at the over-charging though, as I say, I would wear some of the clothing if it were more reasonably priced and I'm sure others would as well. Why should it be the fans who have to pay for everything all the time?

they should but people are particularly thick on here when it comes to such things, as i've found out in the past....
