Is it just me or has he started to look a half decent player. Thought he did pretty well when he came on at Spurs. Again not really a left back but if he can continue to improve he might turn into a decent midfielder.

Or am i being stupid?

He hasn't been challenged since he has returned. Going down the wings I think Riise is still a better player.

Defensively, both are rubbish.

Maybe it was just me looking at Aurelio through somewhat negative spectacles but I thought we tended to drive alot more down the right than the left and I wondered if it was more by choice from Gerrard and Alonso to switch play to this side rather than 'pass *gulp* to Aurelio.

I also thought that Riise did most of the work on the left be it attacking or defending.

*I await canning for suggesting that there was a hint that we didnt pass the ball left because it was Aurelio playing there

I think Aurelio is going to end up being a very shrewd bit of business from Rafa.

yeah, if we sell him in the summer for a few million

Haven't been convinced at all by Aurelio - he played well yesterday but he's been mostly too slow mentally and physically for the Premiership so far for my liking.

I haven't been remotely convinced until Spurs, where he was excellent - and again yesterday he didn't really put a foot wrong in his brief cameo

think he's been adjusting though jim. people maybe expected him to hit the ground running, but it's a hell of a different league and style of football to what he's used to.

I think that is a very 'loose' use of the word excellent, Will

While I have drunk copious quantities of alcohol since that game, I recall him having a very good game

I thought he was adequate - kept it simple but never offered anything remotely threatening from a wide left position. IMHO opinion, someone occupying those area's should offer attacking threat - the way Garcia kept getting forward and coming in to give another option when we attacked.

Also have to agree with Steve's point about him adjusting - I may be a bit unfair at this stage.

I presume you are talking about the Spurs game. and not the Bolton game

I take that point Steve, I've just been disappointed with how mentally slow he's been. Some of his simple passing and some of his choices have been Cheyrou-esque. I can see he has talent and his freekick ability is top class but I have my doubts over him long term. Not pacy enough to play on the left flank either in either position really imo.

He nodded to me yesterday as if to say hello.

He's now my new best friend :)

And your only one.

I thought he looked very decent at Spurs, kept things simple, which, when Garcia is on one wing, is something that is crucial on the other.

You can only have one best friend :bleh:

i'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt jim. he's definitely got the technical ability and as far as i can see isn't afraid of a 50/50 either, so i have had to put his slow start down to the adjusting to the pace thing. think he'll have a reasonable future as a left midfield option for us, where his lack of pace could balance up pennant's proper wing play on the other flank.

He is the complete opposite of Gonzalez - who is really his main competitor as I dont think Rafa sees him as a LB. What that means in the whole scheme of things I am not sure other than that the team must play differently when he plays as he is not a quick 'outlet' - maybe someone that can be used to try keep things tight rather that someone that will drive forward to get you a goal.

See I think he's probably fourth in line for that position at the moment when we have a full choice squad to choose from. I'd have Kewell, Garcia and Gonzalez ahead of him. At left back I don't think he looks solid enough to play there consistantly.

He's been alright. No more no less. Haven't been overly impressed with him but have to give him time to settle I guess.
