well the first 45mins was the best ive seen from us in a long, long time..

2nd half we were pretty good too, with one lapse of concentration from carra leading to the goal..

some fantastic passing and movement, with our back 4 playing a higher line than what we have seen usually..

Hopefully Rafa shall stick with that starting 11, as we seemed to click all over the pitch..

A special mention for kuyt and crouch, linked up well and have to be our first choice now....still suprised by how much stick crouch gets, he was superb today....again.

oh and one last thing, yet another visiting teams supporters outsung us.....could hardly hear the kop all game.

we were very professional without being as electric as we were in the 2nd half against Spurs.

Could have had 5 alone in the 2nd half today. Good all-round performance, Xabi was on the mark, Momo didn't get booked, Crouch caused problems, Kuyt was born to score & credit to the ref. Not a difficult game, but the best performance I've seen from a ref in ages.

Even Pennant did well in his 15 mins

he was generally good but the studs-up foul by petrov on xabi was a bad miss by him.

dunno it was a tough one, i dont think there was any intent...both players went in for the ball, 50-50...

alonso certainly didnt seem angered by it.

Terrible defending for Agbonlahor's equalizer

it was, carra missed his header and reina made his mind up for him.

still, first half was the best we've played all season.

just seen oneil interview after the game.

respect to the little leprechaun he gave us a lot of respect and said we were excellent today.

credit to one section of the kop for keeping the Rafa chants up for long parts of the match.

Thats really good to hear :)

It rippled around the kop all game but never really stuck for any significant period. Just a blast in the first half and one in the second.

agree with pretty much every word of that. First half we were scintillating and almost every ball found it's man.

Thought Xabi was back to his sublime best, changing the direction of play, and credit to Stevie as well. Thought he was like a man possessed from the kick off, and it was one of those matches that is proof positive that the right / centre midfield debate is b******s - Stevie may have been right mid but got involved centrally, had a stint on the left, and did some great defensive work. Given the s*** spread around this week it was delightful to see him play as he did.

Lius also had a good game, kept posession well and what flashy stuff he did generally came off. Kuyt and Crouch both got the goal that their indudstry deserved and a pat on the back for Pepe as well. If it wasn't for that save shortly after they'd scored we may have got nervous and not closed the game up with the ease that we did.

the game was a pleasure to watch and we fully deserved the win.

credit to Villa for keeping it close early on and they came out with a different attitude in the 2nd half.

how poor were Baros and Angel in the first half? admittedly, they did not get much service, but neither one looked interested in getting into the game.

not a single Liverpool player could be criticised for their display, although those misses by Fowler and Garcia near the end were terrible.

same starting 11 on Wednesday and we could be all set up for the next phase of the CL.

Bennett is a tosspot, it was an easy game for him to referee.

I think the main difference during the game was that they appeared to help each other and play as a team more. Garcia's goal was a product of this, Gerrard could have had a shot, Kuyt could have gone on his own and so could of Crouch, but all three passed to a player in a better position.

The second half players got a bit more greedy when in front of goal, but that's understandable.

A great improvement on Old Trafford (but that's not that hard).

Could have sworn I saw Bennett give Stevie a low five after the second half pass to Luis.

He ran over to him and slapped his hand down on Stevies.

Aldo said that he went over to compliment him on such a great pass, dunno what that was all about though.

One could argue part of the reason for our poor start was down to Rafa persisting with Bellamy who clearly needs to improve if he's to have a future at Anfield

if we must play 442 I think Crouch and Kuyt are our best choice as they tend to keep possession better and allow Gerrard to wonder infield from the right

He persisted with Crouch last season and look at him now, short term pain, long term gain.

And to be fair, booking Mellberg but not Hyypia was poor.

Still the best game Gordon's had in years.

And i thought the first half was the best 45 minutes of football we've played in many a moon - Villa are no mugs defensively but we popped it abround and waited for the opening. The improvement in passing and creativity since the Mancs was incredible.
