Would love to see Kenny hanging from the rafters, waving his scarf going mental.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COUNTDOWN Benitez: I want to lead Reds out at new stadium - and it should be like Boca's LIVERPOOL v GALATASARAY Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm

By Simon Mullock

RAFA BENITEZ has revealed his dream of leading out Liverpool at the new Anfield.

The Kop boss has been asked to forward his ideas about how the Merseysiders' proposed £180million stadium at nearby Stanley Park should look.

And his message to chairman David Moores and chief executive Rick Parry was that they must recapture Anfield's unique atmosphere or face the consequences.

Benitez said: "My dream is to lead out the team at the new Anfield and if I stay here for three or four more years then we have that possibility. That would make me really happy.

"The atmosphere in Anfield is amazing. And if we can do the same in another big stadium that will be perfect.

"I have been talking to the chairman and Rick Parry about how to do this. It's not easy but I think we can do it. How can you keep the spirit? You can if you keep the support.

"Then in maybe 50 years' time we can talk about the history of the new stadium. But we must feel the supporters behind us.

"Anfield has always been special because of the Boot Room, the people, winning trophies, the supporters. So just think about a new Anfield with even more fans.

"The design will be so important. When you talk about a new stadium it's not necessary to plan one too big.

"If that happens you separate the supporters from the pitch. The new stadium can be closer and still bigger. I've been to the Boca Juniors stadium - La Bombonera - and that's fantastic.

"The stands are very steep and I remember being on the bench and the supporters were above me. The atmosphere was amazing. The screaming came from above your head. It's like a colosseum.

"The Kop is amazing. So are all our supporters around the ground. If we can bring these people, plus 10,000 or 15,000 more and if we are close to the pitch, the atmosphere will be the same as Anfield."

Liverpool may be Britain's most successful club, but they trail the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea when it comes to cash.

United now generate £3m in gate receipts alone whenever Old Trafford is filled to its 76,000 capacity, while Arsenal are now reaping the benefits of moving to Ashburton Grove and Chelsea have the financial might of billionaire Roman Abramovich.

The Merseysiders have reopened talks with millionaire supporter Steve Morgan and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft about investment opportunities at Anfield.

Liverpool, who host Galatasaray in the Champions League this week, have until next Friday to prove that they have the means to fund the stadium project or they will lose almost £25m in European grants.

Benitez believes the promise of a new state-of-the-art stadium will be a huge incentive to potential money men.

He added: "I know for a fact that it will be easier to bring more money into the club if we have the possibility of a new stadium.

"Liverpool are special in that we are one of the few clubs in this country who could fill a stadium like that every single game."

The new stadium will provide a perfect example for current season tickets to move seats and sit with their mates. This would help produce a better atmosphere.

I would prefer something simliar to the millenium stadium but with the Kop high and mighty higher then Newcastle's away stand

I was under the impression that the design was decided on already

Is that not the case?

as did i, i would love the fans as close to the pitch as possible, like the new bayern munich stadium, they can tell what aftershave the players are wearing their that close

The KOP needs to look different, if you look at Arsenal's ground which is almost exactly the same as ours, it looks the same practically all the way around.

When I saw the design of the new ground, I was really disappointed to be honest. It was so much like all of the other new stadiums that are being built.

The US went through a similar phase 30-40 years ago. They built stadiums that were all very similar in New York, Cincinatti, Pittsburgh and St. Louis to name a few. They were circular, could be used for football and baseball, but were completely characterless. All of them with the exception of Shea Stadium are now demolished.

The renaissance in stadiums started with the building of Baltimore's stadium at Camden Yards. A stadium with great facilities, great sight lines, and lots of little idiosyncracies that gives it amazing character. That has been replicated in Cleveland, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Dallas, St. Louis, and will shortly be in New York. The same has happened to a lesser degree with the new NFL stadiums, the best of which was built by Robert Kraft for the Patriots.

I personally think the stadium needs side stands which are at least two main tiers of 20,000 each with room to expand for one more tier. The side stands should look different from each other to add to the ambience.

Club seating is an essential componant, as is luxury boxes. Why not have two or three tiers of club seating on one side and two or three tiers of luxury boxes on the other.

Open lower corners in the stadium to maximize the air-flow through across the field. It seems silly, but it is crucial to making sure that our pitch is top quality and actually saves money in the long run by eliminating the need for relaying the pitch.

A huge New Kop at one end. 50% more capacity than the current one and curling around the open corners on that end of the stadium.

The visitors end should be a smaller facsimilie of the Kop. However, it could have a smaller stand above it (not unlike how it is now) with luxury boxes, or even a restaurant or some other unique idea. One stadium here has a sort of huge open bar that you can stand around in and watch the game. The tickets are a premium, and there would be space for a few hundred, but the thing can double up renting out for big events, and the atmosphere would be awesome, not to mention, the view at the other end of the stadium would be the Kop.

Or just wiring all the seats up to the mains and zapping the ****ers that don't sing.

Camden Yards!

Great stadium for baseball. Also where my son had his wedding reception (in warehouse on seveth floor.)

Have you visited Ravens stadium next door for American football? 67,700 seats and great views (except up top between the 40 yard lines.)

If you are interested give me a shout.

Are the folks who did Camden Yards the same company who did Petco Park in San Diego. There's a superficial resemblance. Petco is an excellent place to watch baseball, though I don't know how the design would translate to a footy stadium. I hate watching football at the Home Depot center in Carson, which seems to be one of the few purpose built 'soccer' stadia, totally souless.

Yep, the company's name is HOK. They are probably the top stadium architecture firm in the world. They did Petco, Camden Yards, and also did the Rebok and the Emirates.

They seem to lack a bit of imagination when it comes to football-american football stadiums, although the Patriots stadium is pretty awesome.

Totally agree

The atmosphere will be better in the new staduim for the reason you suggest and the fact there will be 15,000 new fans and we may have some season ticket holders under 40 with the average age of fans inside anfield dropping from the 104 it is now

I cant wait to be honest, cos me and my two mates can sit together for the first time along with my cousin and another mate who are currently on the waiting list
