Cisse Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I've seldom been more impressed with a player in such a short time. The way he has settled into a new league and a new team is just astonishing. Legend in his first season.
Phil236849 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 there's question marks about whether he can score goals at this level. according to cascarino and the times
Leo No.8 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Absolutely - posted this in another thread but its more appropriate here: As for Kuyt - he really is going to be a real favourite here, the guy couldn't be better suited to Liverpool Football Club. He gives his absolute all, has tons of ability and appreciates the supporters. I love the way he stays out and claps the whole ground, its such a nice touch, plus he chases every single ball. So often you think 'go on chase that defender down' or 'put the keeper under pressure on that kick' but most strikers just don't have the lungs to do it. Kuyt though, chases every single one without fail. But apart from all those kinds of reasons for fans to like him, our Dirk looks some player as well. During the first half, he took down a ball at the far post that was above his shoulder and killed it dead - that was a flash of supreme skill I don't think many people believed he was capable of before he arrived here. I was one of those who really wanted him to sign but I didn't realise just how good his touch and link play were, so it must be one hell of a shock for the people who only saw him in the World Cup and were understandably less than impressed. Since watching him play here I can really see the Mark Hughes comparisons; he is equally brilliant technically, attacks the ball and links in the same way but works even harder and may well score more goals. Legend in the making.
Tones Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Settled in really well. Really could be a legend for us. Easy to see why his old fans loved him so much. Looks a great player.

The way he has settled into a new league and a new team is just astonishing. Legend in his first season. Still have a slight concern about his finishing but from the little I'd seen of him before he came, I thought he looked a top class player with touch, awareness, skill, strength & capacity for work. A real team player as well. So far he's shown all of that and has settled in very very quickly.

I heard he's being sent to the middle east next summer to settle the problems over there and then after that work on bringing world peace

Barnesy_10 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 i watched it on some dodgy foreign channel and at the start of the 2nd half it focussed on him before kick off really scoping out the far corner of the Main Stand. (where the WAGS sit), presume he was looking for his wife or dad? Great player. His control on the ball is amazing, and the way he is starting to boss players about can only be a good thing.
SkippyjonJones Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 There was a moment in the second when the ball was cut back to him in the area and he had to stretch to get a foot on it ? it ended up going wide. He ends p on the deck and the first thing he did was to look up and applaud the pass. Compare that to what Cisse was doing all the time which was to expect a perfect pass then whinge when it wasn;t. I think Kuyt is far more a team player..
Bootle Buck Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I have no doubt he will go on a mad goalscoring run any time soon. He works his socks off and provides opportunities for others. He is a Rafa "wet dream".

Paul_LFC Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 It looks like his own lap of honour around the pitch will continute to happen at the end of every home game.
Leo No.8 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 It looks like his own lap of honour around the pitch will continute to happen at the end of every home game. I think so - apparently he used to do it after every home game for Feyenoord as well...
Guz Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I think so - apparently he used to do it after every home game for Feyenoord as well... It's all me me me with that guy isn't it !
Andy-oh-six Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I'm not ashamed to say that I love him. No time for Xabi anymore.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 far, far too early for the 'legend' talk, but he's started well

Guest RedLegend Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 No wonder they loved him at Feyenoord. You rarely see players work so hard for the team as Dirk Kuyt. Totally selfless.
R A Softlad Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 that's 'chairidee, mate' And they don't like to talk about it...
fyds Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 A rare opportunity to say 'told you so' about a player i've been hoping we'd sign for the last two years.

monkey puzzle Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Talking of commitment and work rate of players I thought Bellamy was superb on Wednesday. In the 89th minute he was chasing down the left back two or three times after being turned. Didn't stop all night. With the two of them up front I'm sure we'll be sorted this season.
