Better facilities

Galatasaray president Özhan Canaydın broke the news this afternoon after consulting the mayor of Istanbul, citing the Olympic stadium's larger capacity ? 80,000 compared to the Ali Sami Yen's 24,000 ? and better facilities as reasons for the switch. The venue hosted the epic 2005 UEFA Champions League final, won on penalties by Liverpool against AC Milan, and the Reds will be back in the city on 5 December for their concluding Group C game.

A few have said that but the problem is, imagine yourself sat in work on the afternoon of the game knowing that loads of Reds are sat round Taksim Square on the Efes singing themsleves daft.

Nope, I'm not going back. I never ever want to see the Ataturk again. That place has become almost mystical to me

 

I know that if I was in Taksim square singing before this game, the only thing going through my mind would be that it was not as good as the last time. Outside the stadium a bit later I would be looking at the area where the stage was and laughing to myself at the bloke going mad at us to get off the stage or it will collapse. I would then be in the ground looking at the area that where I stood (I never actually sat in my seat at any stage) and would be thinking back again. In fact I'd probably miss the whole match as I sat there dreaming again about the greatest day in my life. Nah, I'm not spoling it.

We booked on Airmiles. Out Monday, back Wednesday Lufthansa Manc/Munich/Istanbul 2,500 miles, £97 taxes.

 

I'm told this gaff is OK and on the strength of Lenny the Lout's recommendation we're booked in. Shame about the name though!

i'll be going. i plan on paying homage once a year for the rest of my life. the happiest day of my life occured there. i want to remember it for ever
