Good luck Paddy.... He was one of my favorite players. Used to love seing him hammer the ball towards goal with his left leg. Too many injuries though...

Villa's Berger ponders retirement option

May 11, 2006

Frustrated by nagging injury, Patrik Berger is seriously considering retirement.

The Czech Republic midfielder played only nine times for Aston Villa this season after a free transfer from Portsmouth.

Berger said: "When you have injury problems like I have had this season, the hardest part is the mental side of it.

"When you see the fit lads going out to enjoy training, that's the most difficult bit.

"I'll be 33 this year and don't really want to have another season like this.

"If I had to go through the same next year, I'd be thinking it was time to hang up my boots and go home and enjoy my life."

Used to get annoyed with his shooting a lot of the time - it was very Riise-esque at times.

Also didn't appreciate the way he celebrated scoring against us the season after he left us, while playing for Portsmouth.

loved to watch him play (although also a bit annoyed at his style of play). Fantastic left foot. That free kick against Man U - sheer class.

Great attacking player. Stifled by Houllier and his bore tactics.

Let's all thank him for his "big bad Paddy pass" that gave the lad the ball and poor old Arsenal won nothing much at all, apparently. Cracking pass that, Paddy, lad.

 Houlliers bore tactics = 127 goals in 63 games and 3 trophies

Anyway, quality player who brought the birds back to Anfield - also scored some blinding goals for us and was very worthy of the shirt.

Bloody poof. ;)

127 goals in 63 games? Surely that makes him the best attacking midfielder in the world, ever???

ridiculous

he was on his way out before Houllier took over

Ged rescued the lad's career

Only to then impale it upon the spike of Bruno Cheyrou.

Paddy gave the Count some great memories. He provided that killer pass for Owen in the 2001 final.

Berger was always one of my favourite players when he was with us. He scored the first Liverpool goal I saw in my first game at Anfield. A penalty in the 3rd minute against Sunderland when Heskey made his debut.

Berger's left foot was like a golf club at times, the power and accuracy he could get on his shooting was wonderful.

I remember that 4-0 game away at Derby. Heskey already had a hattrick and we strung about 30 odd passes together before Berger picked up the ball and slammed it in from 20 yards. Football doesn't get much more perfect then that.

He scored some blinders but my fave moment of him was that inch perfect pass from deep in our half to MO at the FA Cup against Arsenal ...That goal was as perfect a goal and set up that I have seen

I remember his great goal against Leeds at home when even the ref applauded. Danny's goal in that game was pretty good too.

That was almost my first ever Liverpool game. Spent the day on the phones only to eventually get through and find out the tickets had just sold out.

I was gutted, and even more so after seeing those fantastic goals.
