It's a load of old s**** - just an excuse to justify the way he continues to behave. Not that Gerrard was anything like as bad as Rooney, but there's an example of a player who has tempered a certain youthful exuberance without his losing a single facet to his game. There's no reason that Rooney couldn't grow up a little and become a better player for it. As it is, he plays for the mancs, so I'm perfectly happy to see his petulance thrive and continue to get him sent off. I just wish it was a little more often.

And in quite possibly the most unexpected announcement since, well the last time they bottled out of anything, the FA have said that Rooney will not face any further punishment for his temper tantrum on Saturday.

Exactly. The offside rule mentions nothing about backpasses or the opposition hitting the ball - it's all in terms of when a member of your own team strikes the ball. When Djourou heads it, Gallas is offside, and that's all that matters. The fact it then hits Myhill a tenth of a second later makes no odds as it's the same passage of play. Had Djourou not headed it then the goal should have stood, as long as Gallas was onside when the ball was originally kicked.

Can't believe some Arsenal fans are trying to claim Gallas is onside because it hit the keeper last.

Same here. I think very, very early on it wasn't a totally ridiculous position to hold. It didn't take too long for that opinion to change though.
