If Pennant had contributed on the pitch, his off-field shenanigans would have been swept under the carpet, you can be sure of that. It's the fact he's been ineffective on the pitch that means he's off. As an aside, just checked some stats. In his 10 or so years as a professional footballer he's scored 13 goals. How rubbish is that?
