I'm was under the impression that moneyball and spending a large amount of money on an established player weren't mutually exclusive. I could be wrong about that. Wenger seems to have a pathological distaste for signing players that somebody might have heard of, so I'm not sure that Arsenal are operating strictly along moneyball lines, but they've certainly incorporated aspects of it into their transfer policy.

Deschamps has taken a team to a CL final and has a French League title to his name already. The other two have done nothing of note yet, apart from winning a few matches, but I do like what Klopp is doing at Dortmund. If these are the choices we have, it's Deschamps clearly.

Villas Boas has done nothing yet. Maybe he'll turn into a great manager, maybe not, but I'm not sure LFC should be the club to find out. Too many mistakes made already, the next (full time) manager needs to be a dead cert and that isn't Villas Boas in my view.

Not sure what the problem is here, he just said training was different under Benitez and didn't give it any context. Whether he thinks the training is better or worse now is his own opinion, and he can express that opinion in whatever way he wants.

Balotelli was dead set on getting out of Italy, which was unsurprising considering he'd been turned into a weird hate figure for most fans, and had a fractious relationship with Mourinho. The fact CIty were prepared to offer ridiculous money just made it a no-brainer to move him on from an Inter point of view, but as they didn't bother replacing him it clearly weakened the squad.

Inter only clinched the league on the last day of last season and looked very nervy while doing it, not exactly walking it. Roma pushed them right to the line. MIlan and Juve have both improved their squads in the summer, while Inter have stagnated, and Lazio are a completely different team to last season. But a six point difference isn't disastrous at this stage of the season. I fail to see how any of it is relevant to Liverpool though.

This is a course of action I can agree with.

I think it's more a case of the England squad being borderline unmanageable than Capello losing it. It'd be too expensive to break his contract anyway.

The squad as it stands now or the squad as it will be come the end of August? Potentially two very different things there.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we managed, through some miracle, to get Van Gaal, but that obviously won't happen.
