Don't think Morientes is the kind of player suited to coming on as a sub, he dosn't settle into the pace of the game as quickly as some and the game is far more frantic in the latter stages. Also feel that while Morientes has been playing well with Crouch i don't see him as a viable alternative to play instead of Crouch. We controlled the game until Crouch went off(he wasn't playing great,but was at least offering an outlet to the midfielders whom the ball didn't bounce straight off) and we lack any other player who can act as the focal point of our attack. We do need another striker (possibly two- one now and one in the summer). Someone who can do what Crouch does and someone who can score, it would be all the better if we got a striker who can do both .

Any criticism of Cisse isn't based solely on this game. We knew before today he was a limited footballer but the least he could do is work for the team,chase balls,press the opposition and look f***ing interested.

Nah, Barton like Gerrard isn't a defensive mid and is wasted there,he needs a to be playing with a def mid next to him which Ireland isn't.

I think a lot of people were saying that because they thougt Gerrard would leave.

Finnan has been solid and consistent and imo is a good enough right back.However some people seem to be doing Kromkamp a disservice, i think he definately has enough to push Finnan for the right back slot. When we signed Reina some people questioned why sign another keeper,we already had Carson,Dudek and Kirkland.Similarly Sissoko when we were strong in the middle yet didn't have a right winger, and then again with Crouch again suggesting other positions needed to be filled 1st. However as Rafa previously stated all these players have were bought in to cope with the physical nature of the premier league and have been pivitol in our improved form. Finnan's biggest weakness for me is his strength which is why i believe Kromkamp has been bought in. Finnan will rightly remain our no1 right back, but by the start of next season i think Kromkamp will be very close to edging him out.

While Finnan has been very solid and dependable the one thing he lacks for me is a strong physical game. Benitez highlighted earlier this week that he had brought in players like Reina,Sissoko and Crouch in order to cope with the physicality of the league. He tried to replace Finnan initailly with Josemi who is very physical but unfortunately had a poor footblling brain(lacked positional sense,rash in the tackle). From what i've seen of him and heared from others he should fit the bill as an excellent footballer and strong defender.

Stylistically he reminds me of Babbel, not up to that standard yet but imo has the potential.

Newcastle will probably offer twice as much for him.

Don't think moving to Italy would be good for Joaquin. Serie A hasn't been kind to Spanish players in the last few years. Mendieta,De la Pena,Jose Mari all had a pretty bad time.

tbh Baros really isn't that good, think he had plenty of potential once but lacks the intelligence to fulfill it.

Ghana say they want him to play for them in the world cup,would be a loss for the usa as he has the potential to be a special player for them. However i can't see Nike letting it happen ,they have paid Adu a lot of money to be the face of "Soccer" in the USA and i don't know how happy they would be with this.
