Rafa Benitez wants Wigan's Emile Heskey back at Liverpool
Toni replied to Stevie H 's topic in Liverpool FC
consistent newspapers reports are all linking heskey with us. i really dont know how i d feel if we signed him back again. admittingly i was one of his critics when he was playing for us. hopefully his second potential spell with us would be more fruitful. what is for certain is that he loves playing for liverpool fc, and that s abig plus in my book. -
as far as raw talent goes, i think babel is the most talented player from all the current players trying to break into liverpool s first 11. thus i would be disappointed to see him leave. hopefully rafa will succeed in sorting him out and fulfill his glaringly obvious potential.

then he exactly what we need we seem to struggle to make the points count vs the lesser teams

lets not forget that park, fletcher are squad players for their respective teams and i dont have any problem with kuyt being a squad player in our team. anelka has scored 14 goals already this season...

Will Liverpool be making January reinforcements? Without doubt, the most common question being asked by Liverpool supporting friends of the site regards requests for information over January transfer targets. I enjoying reading all of your questions and comments, they help make the site, so please keep them coming in! The majority just want to know if Liverpool will be signing anybody when the transfer window opens, while there are a few who are pretty excited and would like some fairly extravagant rumours confirmed. All I can say is that, as its stands at the moment, Liverpool will not be making any of those earth shattering big money signings that some people have been getting excited about. The word is that before Liverpool start spending any serious money in January, players will have to be sold first. A couple of targets have been identified, but one of those is now going to sign for another club. There may be one arrival, but it seems that at least one player – possibly Pennant – will have to move on first. Of course, everyone has heard the rumours about Robbie Keane, and the story involving Steven Gerrard and Mark Lawrenson has been unavoidable. My take on this is that there is no operation underway to sell the former Spurs forward, but that if, for example, his old club were to come back in for him with a sizeable offer and a deal involving a player like Lennon – then of course Liverpool may give it some consideration. That does not mean that is going to happen; simply that if the club were presented with an appealing offer that would benefit everyone concerned, then the manager may very well give it the green light. Nevertheless, if Keane stays at Liverpool, the consensus is that he will ultimately be a success and that his goals and abilities will play an important part en route to winning the League title. link In my opinion, to still remain on top, come May, we need a Robbie Keane in full flow for the 2nd half of the season and also hopefully a creative possibly pacy right midfielder who can add a new dimension to our attacking play or alternatively a resucitated babel operating down the right flank.

totally agree. for all the pros kuyt on the right brings to the team, the brute reality remains that he will get nowhere near chelsea s or manure s first 11, on a regular basis. in my eyes he is a good player, who vs certain teams, in certain venues is first choice for eg, vs real madrid in the bernabeau i think he should be indespensable, but surplus to requirments at anfield vs lesser teams, where we must create, attack and stretch the opponents. we need that ball-carrier in the team. hope that in january we have enough funds to address this defeciency.

Which young player will make an impact for us and why?
Toni replied to New York Red 's topic in Liverpool FC
i still remember the promising accolades awarded to players such as robbie foy, ritchie partridge, john welsh, neil mellor... thus have stopped dreaming that i will ever see another gerrard/owen/fowler type of player emerge from melwood -
yes but we really need another one on the right. although kuyt has a huge workrate, he offers next to nothing the role of a threatining winger.
-
i dont know where this commitment. attitude problem is coming from. if it is inferred from his lack of playing time thats another matter, but i honsetly cant see it on the pitch. i agree ha had a bad game yesterday and he lost possession, butg when he did, everytime he tracked back trying to recover possession and redeem his mistake. honestly dont think that the sporiadic last 10mins cameo, is helping his development or his confidence and contrary to many on here esp. at anfield i would give him 4/5 consecutive starts to get match fit and to see if he shows improving signs. kuyt can get a rest every now and then.
-
Our problem today was that we had little threat down the wings. riera was anonymous for most part of the match and kuyt most of the time just passed the ball back. we need wingers with the ability to dribble past their opposing number.

we are top of the league but not in a convincing manner. we are a very solid unit but very lethargic when attacking. we must effortlessly be able to create a greater number of clear-cut chances to win the league. this has been a chronic illness in rafa s teams, and keane was bought purposely to address this illness.
-
once again we have been bailed out. strange seasin indeed but to win it me feels we still need spurs keane and another right winger, may it be babel being utilized or more or a another 20 mill from January s transfer window.
-
hope we dont sell him. imo the lad has a brilliant career ahead of him. his physical attributes are impressive. has a hell of a shot and good control. he has the potential to improve beyond our wildest dreams. we cannot let a player like him just get away. Rafa plays a major part as to whether he will fulfil his potential. hope rafa knows what he s doing. for me babel has never been given a proper chance yet. five starts on the trot and we can begin to comment afterwards on him. comparing el zhar to babel is unfair. babel wins hands down everytime.
-
We need that player who in games like this can unlock defences. We spent 20 mill on Keane to do just this, but so far he showed he s not up to it. If Keane doesnt come to his senses and play like a 20 mill player we will never win the league, this season. About Rafa. I am not pompous or arrogant enough to question his tactical appproach to a match, cos i am a nobody next to him, but surely i am allowed to state that it is bizarre and am annoyed about two things: 1) Kuyt is never subbed . Why? 2) Babel (a proved international player, who on his day can unlock any type of defence), why put on schoolboy el zhar?

I hate us being so skint! made a mess of that. see wiki stats

"I've only been here a few months and it takes a bit of time to settle into a new club. That's not an excuse but I deserve to be judged a little further down the line." "I'm not being big headed but you don't score a lot of goals like I've done over the last ten years and suddenly it just goes away so I'm not worried about that." Amen to that. As for the arm waving. I dont give a s**** as long as he stays totally comitted and plays with his heart as he did yesterday.

Finally. riera and babel in the same 11. lets see how this develops.
-
If we were to make one signing in January who would you go for?
Toni replied to Iver's topic in Liverpool FC
Joaquin. Valencia are crying out for some dosh, so we could buy him for a reasonable price. -
I hope both babel and Keane will play in the 4 games. Would like to see babel on the right and riera on the left.
