It was never gonna be the top players unless the top players wanted to move. They form part of the value of the club. Everyone else is fair game. It was plain as day there was going to be more aggressive asset stripping once they sacked Benitez. Changing the manager means the stripping can be labelled (mostly for the benefit of the top players) as clearing out "deadwood". The current board expect be gone in the next six months without a care that we can barely put a team and subs out to play. They only care about selling the club for maximum cash and as much debt as they can get away with in that time.

It does matter what order it's done in. To do it this way round is the wrong order. It's quite simple. Now we don't have a left back. Everyone knows we don't have a left back. Everyone knows we don't even have a reserve left back. This means any left backs we buy will be more expensive - that's simple economics. Demand & supply. Which means we're likely to end up with a worse replacement. I'm not saying that's what will happen, I'm just saying that selling before you buy makes this scenario more likely. Good management is about reducing risk not increasing it.

You're completly missing the point being made by those that are angry about his sale though Wayne. His talent has very little to do with it. The fact that he was the last left full back at the club has nearly everything to do with it. He's been suggesting that Aurelio, Dossena and Insua are so s*** that we're better off without any of them and Nickey Shorey or Enrique would be better. It really makes sense at all to sell the only left back at the club. NONE. Whatsoever. Even if we were going to sell him. Surely singing his replacement first would be the correct order of things. Absolute shambles. Are you on happy pills Gunga Din? Or are you just totally thick?

Is it nailed on that Insua is leaving then? The very fact that it's being considered for £5m is absolute joke. If we had another two LBs better than him at the club then maybe. But he's the only one left! That puts an enormous amount of pressure on 1) Hodgson to find a replacement (or two). 2) Finances (as any club we try to buy off will know we ain't got any left backs). 3) The players themselves to hit the ground running. For £5m? Joke. Absolute joke. Anyone who thinks it's even mildly a good idea at this present moment in time is a complete idiot.

I think you're now wilfully misunderstanding what Sion posted to defend yourself. There's a difference between supporting the manager (hoping they do well) and supporting his appointment (thinking he's the best man for the job). Of course every supporter will hope the manager does well, to hope otherwise would be pretty f***ing stupid. It's quite natural that those that wanted to see the back of Benitez would be drawn, like to you to support his appointment, whilst others might be entitled to a greater degree of reservation don't you think?

Parker's a really good player whose career was f***ed a bit by signing for Chelsea and sitting on the bench for 2 seasons when he was just entering his physical prime. The silly t***. Before he went there he regularly gave out lessons to players and teams that were considered his betters. Including us on a few occasions at least. Never seen him be like that since. He's a bit small and looks like he's lost that little bit of snap to the tackle he once had. Other than that I'd take him on, that and West Ham would want funny money. He's no replacement for Mascherano at all, but he'd be a decent option at the right price, which I doubt he would be. Maybe Lucas will one day be a better player than Parker, he's got he potential to be, I'm expecting quite a bit a bit from Lucas this season now it seems he's improved on the physical side. If we do lose Mascherano I'd want us to sign someone who can screen the back 4 and slot in at CB during the game. This would give Johnson a more free role and allow Agger to get forward more often. Doesn't have to be a £15m-£20m "Captain" of whoever. In fact, for me, apart from LB and cover up front, a f***ing great yard dog in the middle is something we miss most. How much would I have loved Ged to have signed Essien.

Well, I get your point about the system. I don't think Hodgson's Liverpool will be any different from Rafa's in this regard. I don't think we've got the players to play through most of the teams in the Premier League. And I've never seen one of Hodgson's teams play with anything other than quite defensive full backs with the attacking thrust coming from wide midfield. However, if Hodgson is going to stick to his word "...it would be nice if we could fashion an image again which in some way represents what these people pioneered so many years ago.", then who know's what the f*** he's thinking.

That's total b******s. If you'll excuse the expression. It's f*** all like owning a house that's worth £100,000. Liverpool Football club is I'm afraid worth whatever the owners think it's worth. The banks will lend on the basis of the ability of the Liverpool to pay the interest. There's been a grey area created by the introduction of the new stadium and future revenue from it. It's f*** all like a house because you can't buy another one, there is only one... or if you're loose about it, very few clubs like Liverpool. You can't compare it with next door or down the road.
