if there are 10 things. the first one has a value of 1 point, costs £1, the last has a value of 10 - £10 - the total value = £55 If you can buy the first 8 things (36 points) for the same price / point you're you're doing much better than buying the first 4 things (£1, £2, £3, £4 - 10 points) for the same price / point. the first 10 points only cost £10 - you can't buy 20 points for £20 - they cost £36, the next 4 points cost £26 not £10. Similarly If you plot wages against points, Premier League points cost more for each point. So if Liverpool scored 21 points at a similar cost/point than fulham who score 10, Liverpool did a lot better.
