  10. Silent Hair gives a few of the others a run for 'name of the tournament'.
  11. Rosicky got 2, van Persie 1, Henry 1, Cesc 1 (I think?)
  12. Cech Srna (though this might be the weakest position in this year's tourney) Ayala Mertesacker Abidal Mascherano Kaka Appiah Riquelme Saviola Klose
  13. 1. Ghana. They're the best team Africa has turned out for years. Stephen Appiah is one of my favourite players, ever. 2. Argentina. I like their style and that team has World Cups written all over their future with young stars like Mascherano, Tevez, Messi, Saviola and co peaking over the next few years. They're a joy to watch when in flow but aren't afraid to get stuck in if need be. 3. Spain. They'll underachieve, obviously, but I'd like them to do well for Garcia, Xabi, Pepe, etc. Similar team to Argentina in that they're very young and consequently absoloutely stacked with talent for the forseeable decade. 4. Australia. If for no other reason than it seems to piss my friends off. 5. Switzerland. They're unbearably dull, almost destined to draw 0-0 with every team they ever play. They'd probably pull off a boring penalty shootout, if that were possible, but my missus is Swiss and she goes bananas when they do anything remotely exciting so that's worth watching in itself.
  14. Yes, the same Brazillians that do their utmost to remain on their feet. You really are quite bonkers. Anyone else think Bruce Arena looks like Homer Simpson?

  17. I had $8 in my BF account and stuck it all on Germany @ 1.5 to beat Poland, so up to $12. Put that $12 on the Argies to beat Serbia @ 1.7 - up to $19.50. Put that on Spain to beat Tunisia @ 1.3 and presto, I've made almost $20 in a week. It's not exactly brave betting, but it's working. Might stick a few dollah on the Germans over Ecuador today.

  19. He was excellent during the Euro champs in 2004 too. I thought Mertersacker looked impressive.
  20. He won Anderlecht's player of the year, Belgian player of the year and Belgian young player of the year in one season, I believe.

  22. I would rather win the World Cup than any club competition with any team.

  24. Henry in a preseason friendly against Weisz at the beginning of this season, I think. He controlled it on his thigh, flicked it over his head with his right foot and lobbed the keeper with his left. The ball didn't touch the ground. Raul against Man Utd for Real Madrid, purely for Redondo's flick. Perhaps my favourite moment on a football pitch. http://youtube.com/watch?v=3S01-lFpTVo&search=Redondo Rooney's volley v. Newcastle
