Been reflecting this morning that even when things were at their best last season, Slot showed no ability to structure the team to get the best out of whoever was in the #9 space (Nunez, Jota, Diaz). So why on earth did we spend £200m on two number 9s, one of whom seems to touch the ball less than Haaland?
I would have Gordon as a flexible squad option. Ideally he's 4th or 5th choice. Which means we would need in addition 2 other wide players capable of starting (gakpo should be 5th best if we keep him, Rio a bonus). Hugo and Isak would be in top 4 forwards, but we should plan that Hugo may not be at that level for all of next season given the nature of the injury
Not sure why Hugo is getting so much flak (albeit very wasteful in possession against PSG). He has been hugely overplayed this season and the service in to him is often dreadful. I'm more worried by Isak's total lack of effort and how that will impact next season!
They can't say they are getting rid of him until they actually do, its better to ignore all the speculative articles until the last game is played this season
Salah always struggles against Mendes, so understand him not starting. But to put on Gakpo and Isak ahead of him took the piss. Isak in particular did nothing
Whatever we do we need to sign some players with fight in them - its been systematically removed from the squad and not replaced - Henderson, Miller, gini, robbo, sadio, Bobby, Diaz, nunez, diogo
Edwards reputation seems to be entirely built off the period that Jurgen was in charge, when we were the best team in the world for 2 years. Without Jurgen (who showed at Dortmund he was a great manager), what has Edwards actually achieved?
Whatever the various problems have been at different points of this season, at this point it is abundantly clear to everyone that Slot does not have the answers. In which case whilst I am annoyed at his performance, the people I am angry with are those that are keeping him in the job
