2 years ago i'ld have hit myself...but should alonso go?
Dan replied to Chewie's topic in Liverpool FC
Looks like he's staying thank f*ck. Snippet from the official site at the bottom of a Carra interview: Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso, who will be offered a new deal on Merseyside, has revealed he is very happy with life in Liverpool. He said: "It's great to be a part of Liverpool. I like it here. The fans have been amazing throughout the campaign. They did their bit. Sadly we couldn't give them the win they deserved." -
Why are people talking about Tevez? Surely he's around the £20M bracket
-
I'd imagine Simao has got to be one of these signings he's talking about
-
What about Huntelaar? I know a few have raved about him on here. Admittedly i don't know much about him but would he be a good shout? What's he like? I've read he would cost around the £20M mark which seems more than the numbers being talked about for the spanish lads.

Just back from the match/Athens fans with tickets pepper sprayed

These sh*tbags who were storming the gates and causing mayhem.....were they kids or adults as well? -
I think it would. No club has ever done anything near to that....not even Chelsea.

What so Bellamy plays with 10 more times desire and pride than Alonso, Reina and Kuyt? Don't be daft.
-
With the exception of Ferrera, on paper Chelsea? Cech Terry Carvalho Cole Essien Lampard Robben Cole Drogba Shevchenko

Simao's slight frame? Not as slight as Alves i don't think. I always thought Simao was pretty stocky. Simao has got two quality feet and can play pretty much anywhere across midfield which is exactly the flexibility that Rafa likes.
-
I think he can bang them in from pretty much anywhere. He's quick, agressive and prolific, although admittedly he's not scored as many season but he's been injured.
-
Judging by Rafa's quotes we can expect some major signings pretty quickly. I'd love to see us sign Villa. I think he's the best available option, as Eto'o has committed to Barca. He'd cost a small fortune mind.

How much did we pay for Gonzalez? About £4M was it?
-
Don't be daft. Do you honestly think Rafa would compromise winning the CL to please Alonso?

The performance and the reaction at the end has made the defeat a lot easier to take. We bossed it, simple as. Just lacked in the final third which needs addressing. Can't fault anyone for effort. What made me most proud was our reaction after the game. Hearing the interviews with Carra, Stevie and Kuyt who all showed true dignity in defeat (unlike that tw*t Henry last year) to the backdrop of our fans absolutley drowning out the Milan fans with a rendition of YNWA. Then our players, manager and co-owners shaking the hands of all the Milan players before collecting the medals and staying out on the pitch to applaud the fans. True Class

For those who are struggling take just 10 seconds to imagine if we'd have been playing the Mancs. Should make you feel a bit better.

Got to be Sky. Turn the commentary off for the game and listen to Thommo in the studio ruin anyone who attempts to discredit us.
-
I reckon thats spin. Obvious alternative now would be to play Riise left with Arbeloa LB. Reckon Kewell will start though and was always going to after Charlton

What like Crouch for Bellamy at Stamford Bridge?
-
If anyone's off i'd imagine it would be Sissoko
-
He's just had a thinly veiled pop at Rafa for rotation now against Fulham - so did Mourinho. What a couple of n*heads.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if he's been misquoted in parts to get a headline as there are some disrespectful comments in there. Just more fuel to the fire for our boys when we take to the pitch. The media, together with various Milan players, coaching staff and other figures in the game have have done a great job of catapulting Milan as clear favourites now. Just how we like it the arrogant b*stards.

Wonder if we could get Carson back if the worst comes to the worst.

RAFAEL BENITEZ has left the door open for Harry Kewell to make a late bid for a Champions League final berth ? as semi-final hero Pepe Reina suffered an injury scare. The goalkeeper, who saved two spot-kicks during the dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea at Anfield in midweek, will undergo a scan to discover the extent of the shoulder injury he suffered on Saturday at Fulham. Liverpool will be hoping that the blow he suffered when collecting a cross in the first half while under pressure from Brian McBride will not result in any lasting damage to threaten his participation in the final in Athens on May 23. He finished the game, but was in some discomfort. Meanwhile, Kewell made his long-awaited comeback for Liverpool as a 77th-minute substitute in the disappointing 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage. It was the 28-year-old?s first appearance for the Anfield outfit since limping out of last season?s FA Cup victory over West Ham in Cardiff ? the second successive year injury had curtailed his involvement in a final. The number seven, who departed the Ataturk pitch to a chorus of boos from his own fans in 2005, was not expected to play again this term after undergoing a series of operations on his troublesome groin. But Benitez has now challenged the Australian to prove his fitness and influence the Spaniard?s plans ahead of the May 23 showpiece in Sunday?s home clash with Charlton. ?It was possible for me to see Harry play again, we will see if he can feature in the rest of the season and maybe he will have a chance of playing in the final,? said the Spanish boss after Clint Dempsey?s 69th-minute strike condemned his men to a second successive league defeat. ?If he plays well this week in training and next weekend, Harry has a chance of playing. He has time. ?We need to test him. Physically, he really needs to play, he needs to tackle, to sprint and come back. It is too soon to say whether he will start. ?He might start next Sunday but it depends on how he trains in the week.? Kewell was not the only Liverpool player to have his 2005 European Cup final cut short by injury. Former Fulham defender Steve Finnan, who received a warm welcome from the home fans when he replaced Emiliano Insua on 75 minutes at Craven Cottage, was substituted at half-time in the Ataturk with a leg strain. Finnan believes the return of Kewell will give Benitez?s men a timely boost ahead of their Athens date with AC Milan. ?I don?t know whether Harry expected to play again this season but it is good that he came on and managed to get some minutes,? he said. ?It?s great because he?s been out a long time, so it is like having a new player. He might play his part in the final. ?It has been a difficult season for him with operations so I just think he has been trying to recover. ?Probably the main objective for him is to get ready for pre-season and get fit for the new season and if he can play a few games then all well and good. ?He gives us a balance on the left-hand side so it gives us competition. He can play on the right and up front.? Momo Sissoko will also undergo a scan after suffering a knock to his knee.
