Exactly. Obvious that it was, but they'll never admit to it.

Predictions for the Italian game fixing charges
Flasher replied to growler's topic in General Football Discussion
I think the punishment will be severe. As someone mentioned above, there are too many implications for other teams, not just the four being prosecuted. I reckon more than one will be relegated. Winning the World Cup will soften the blow, allowing prosecutors to be heavy with the punishment. It will make winning the World Cup bigger than it already is, considering the circumstances. -
BBC 5 Live said this morning that he was called a terrorist due to the Muslim connection. Like you Fig's, quite sure how they know this I have no idea.

Indeed. The best teams are always those that let the opposition worry about them, rather than the other way round, something any team, particularly England can learn from. I think English teams in general always seem to be affraid to take the game to the opposition, including Liverpool at times. When they do though (Juventus at home, Roma at home, Arsenal at home) it works a treat. French wingers were played out of the game for the most part last night due to the Italian full backs.

I did qualify it by saying 'I'm not saying I want Zidane arrested on the pitch' No matter what way you look at it (a good a headbutt as it was) there's no place for it in football. Duncan Ferguson was put away for a headbutt in football was he not? I just think people are and will excuse it purely because Zidane was a football genius. If it had been the other way round, headbutt on Zidane by Materazzi I think the argument would be different, that's all. People fighting each other, either in football or any other sport is different. But when one individual assaults another that's different. I remember playing amateur football when a player ran 20 yards across the pitch and did a flying headbutt right into the face of a player on my team. The victim was a great, great player. As a result of the headbutt he now has serious damage, can no longer walk and will die prematurely as he loses control of his muscles and probably chokes on his own spit. I realise the above is an extreme case, but if Zidane's headbutt was against a smaller player, therefore head against face, he too could have caused serious damage. All hypothetical I know, but it was just madness and it can't be ignored, as good as Zidane was as a player.

If I understand your point correctly... First of all - trying to make the headbutt football related by comparing it with a sliding tackle, particularly THAT headbutt is nonsense. Second - yes, if you did a sliding tackle on the street (with no ball in sight) you could also be done for assault. Do you think people should be excused for their behaviour just because they are on a football field? The ball was nowhere in sight. It's the equivalent of me abusing you then you headbutting me in an office environment. I may well deserve it, but it's still assault. Not saying I want Zidane arrested on the pitch - but there is no place for that behaviour on the pitch, no matter how good you are and he should publicly apologise to the millions of kids watching. Radio already claiming he was called a terrorist

Against both Germany and France I thought Grosso was outstanding. I think Italy were so good this year because of their full backs. They always have great centre halves and an efficient midfield, but the difference with them this year was the attack minded full backs, both of whom were class.

Should he not be arrested for assault? Do that on the street like.........

That's not how it happened. Watch this - the clip is right at the end >>>>

I think it's been a very good world cup with great attendances. Ref's have ben good and bad, play acting is now a way of life, but apart from a great tournament with some thumping goals to boot. Germany v Italy was the best game of football I've seen in years (excluding any games with Liverpool playing of course). Proper football played at a proper pace. I so hope the England boys watched and realised just how crap they were in comparison. Somehow I doubt that though. I didn't like Italy at the start of the competition, and I'm not sure them winning it sends out a great message due to the problems back home, but I've warmed to them now and would quite like to see them win. At the same time, it would be great to see Zidane go out in style. One last point - been very disappointed in Henry and Ronaldinho. Henry seems to be very bitter these days, and Ronaldinho seems to have forgotten that his game needs an end product.

What a player he's become. Outstanding performance again on Saturday when he came on. I was one of those that was baffled when Rafa signed him, as I'm sure many of us were. But boy can the lad play football. Whoever gets the opportunity to play regularly up front with Peter next season will no doubt be chuffed to bits; they'll get bucket loads of goal scoring opportunities. Is there a better 2nd striker in the game at the moment? Possibly, but he's got to be up there surely. Great touch, calm head, doesn't rush - an absolute god for all lanky footballers around the world. Well done Rafa, and well done Peter. That is all.

SELL AURELIO . He said this in Jan about Man Utd "My agent is taking the offer very seriosuly", the player claimed. "United are a great club and any player would want to join them." Taken from Eurosport. SELL HIM!!!!!!

You're cheering England - don't have to cheer individual players. Why do English people not hate Germany like they do England (Ballack & Chelsea) Same for France (Silvestre and Man Utd, Gallas and Chelsea) Argentina (Heinze and Man Utd) To me, the above scenarios are just as hypocritical as anyone choosing to support England. I guess the problem is that too many people HATE other club's players, like those I mentioned above, even though they've never met them. Do I hate Gray Neville? Of course not - I don't know the lad. Do I like watching him fail with Man Utd? Of course, but there's a big difference between the two. Gerrard loves playing for England, so does Carra and Crouch - if they can put up with it so can we.
-
England England England Can't stand English football fans that would rather support another country rather than their own, just because Beckham or Lampard or Ferdinand or Neville plays for England - it's pathetic. Would love Gerrard to score the winner in the final

Agree entirely. They will want something in return. There just seems to be people on here that think that nobody wants to invest, which in reality is just nonsense i'm sure, and it's getting them down. Even though LFC will not want to sell the crown jewells so to speak, I'm sure that many investors would still see the possible association with LFC as one of great value, even if they are unable to get what might be a 'traditional' return on investment.
-
Scored quite a few in Japan/Korea 2002. Was it 6 or 8 goals, probably 6.
-
I just can't believe for one moment that LFC couldn't get the investment to build a new stadium outright. Just don't see it all. I'm sure many investers would jump at the chance. The biggest problem is the location of the new build and its associated side effects i.e. concerned local 'authorities', be that NWDA or anyone else for that matter. I still think it will go ahead - it's too important for the area to miss out on.

Can't seem to find a thread on his perfomance last night which surprises me. Thought he was excellent considering his fitness. Not very quick at the moment and gets tired quite quickly, but never stopped running and capped it off with a well taken goal. Made up for him. He's also dedicated the goal to Cisse which is a nice touch. Seemed to end up in a completely free role as the Aussies chased the game, a position he's not going to get at LFC, but the lad proved he's still got it up top, even if his body is falling apart. Made a funny comment about scoring with his right too. Something along the lines of 'i've had a enough practice with it lately, as the left one has not been working (injuries)'. Well played fella.

I loved the description I think Kev labelled on him - "The Welsh Stan Collymore". I think Bellamy is a little more concentrated on the football compared to Collymore though. Very good signing in my eyes. Will create a lot of space for others as he occupies defenders attentions.
-
You forgot to add that it's also a good way for people to play wise and take the moral high ground, without actually saying anything at all, when the reality is they probably don't even leave their house, or if they do, nobody takes them seriously. Forums = discussions = opinions = disagreements/agreements. Where's the problem?
-
Agree with that totally. People criticise players like Bellamy due to the moaning on the pitch, but that in my mind is exactly what you want in a forward. Strikers should always demand the best service from the rest of the team. It's about winning. Defenders already do and will continue to fear him. Just what we needed. Still a s***bag, but I'm really pleased we are getting him, allegedly.
