They're dithering and penny pinching again. Knowing them they're also sizing up whether they can get away with it with the fanbase by painting him as greedy or not wanting to stay. We've now had Virgil, Salah, Ali and Trent all say they want to stay, with none of them having been offered anything at all by the sounds of it. With Virgil and Salah they have the get out of their age and demands. With Trent it isn't quite that easy, they need to pay him market rate and recognise his importance to the club. Maybe they don't view him as irreplaceable or worth what he's asking. But it's up to them to own that. It's on the owners this, Hughes is probably the man in the middle.

I think his team will think he's worth almost double that, maybe even more. I'd like to see a 2 year deal for Virgil, don't think there'll be much of a drop off. Mo is more problematic, much as I love him. Think you're right about Ali, which is a shame. He's the best keeper we've ever had imo. Even Clem.

The figure might have been out but the concept is basically the same. No way they’ll want to pay him anywhere near that.

Covering their arses there aren't they after getting called out. That's not to say it'll be easy, I'd say 3 years is the most you'd want to risk and it really depends on how much money he's asking for. But to have not spoken to him at all yet is f***ing mental. Same goes for Virgil.
