Pure speculation on my part but at a guess Jurgen saw the value in spending money on having a lot of youngsters and having them on standby when holes in the squad appeared. The League cup last year showed he definitely had a point. The cost was smaller than big signings and an easier sell to the owners. Edwards didn't see the value to the same extent and it was one of the battles he lost. Needless to say, he's having the last laugh. Being slightly tongue in cheek here, there's probably a middle way that's the best for everyone. That said, you can only sell the kids and cash in once.

Overall that was very encouraging. Midfield looked a lot more solid and aggressive. Press looked good. Mo great. Elliot looked great and Carvalho played well and looked really positive. Did keep expecting to see Jurgen on the sidelines though, felt weird without him.
