Maybe Arsene is the only voice of sanity in a football world gone mad. Watching mismatches in England and Spain at the weekend, it seems we might have finally come to the endgame where financial doping has killed football as a competitive sport. Yes, its exciting watching Kenny try to build a team to compete for the top four - but even with a sensational summer of spending it is hard to see us competiting with City, the other lot and Chelsea. Chelsea and United have shown and City have quickly learned that those who spend the most and pay the biggest wages will be rewarded in trophies. It is even worse in Spain, where the skewed TV income allows Barca and Real Madrid to buy whoever they want even if Barca shroud their hoovering up of all available cash and players in some collectivist claptrap . Great for the FM fanboys drooling over Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo hat-tricks and Aguero masterclasses but I think deep down we all know - like Arsene - that its a bit tawdry.
