Game's crying out for Aquilani or someone between deep midfield and attack

From Guardian blog "Jose Enrique will be in the squad having completed his £6m transfer from Newcastle," writes Andy Hunter in Liverpool.

Can't believe Spearing is getting in ahead of Aquilani, Meireles, Henderson, Shelvey...

Babel was a s*** full-back too

Danny Murphy

Maybe Kenny reckoned that we needed a winger - hence Downing - not yet another between the lines attacking midfield player.

Jaysus we have Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Aquilani, Adam, Shelvey for central midfield slots and most have Spearing in as a starter?

Downing is a winger, Mata isn't

Amazing what you can find from mobile phones these days. Surprised some newspapers don't use the tactic. Actually just one conversation with one journo yesterday

Not true - he has been speaking to LFC and AFC and AFC have been more determined according to Mata's side.

Delighted with Adam and excited about Mata - hopefully we show our intent and persuade him away from Arsenal - but we still need more width unless we're going to unleashing the full-backs. Also think Meireles should be kept as he was arguably our best player in Kenny's system last season.

Seems they are showing more determination to get him and moving more quickly

Mata speaking to both clubs but Arsenal look favourites and made their move earlier from what I've heard.

From Monaghan myself and know David - a season-ticket holder and regular traveller on European aways - well so kudos to him for organising this.

Word I have from an ITFC fan is that we haven't bid but if we do 12 million gets him and they want Shelvey on loan

More on Roux from Matt Spiro Nolan Roux is 23, great potential. Scored 15 gls to get Brest up, only 6 in debut top flight yr but had injury. Id guess 6-8m eur France Football saying a deal could be done by Friday or Saturday

Matt Spiro is a sound journo

Good points. There's been a lot of negative revisionism on here over the past few weeks. Carroll getting slated, people saying Meireles should be sold and some obssession with buying young and selling players before they get too old (at 27 or 28!!).

Haven't seen this before but Gago's agent talks up Liverpool move Maybe Gago Lombilla said: "Gago needs to play and Liverpool would be a perfect club for him, Fernando wants to get back on the pitch and return to the top level and at the moment that is not possible in Madrid." Real are believed to be demanding £15 million for the Argentina international but Liverpool are eager to secure a cut-price £10 million deal after splashing out £16 million on Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.
