  1. What's the best way to optimise the return on a lump sum of money? Don't want to go into specifics but my missus will be inheriting a fair bit from her mum's estate and wants to try and grow it a bit. If it makes any difference to the suggestions, she retired young, her only income currently is her NHS pension (state pension still a few years away). Cheers folks.
  2. No doubt kids with considerably more oustanding academic records than those dimwit moneybags from the public school intake. But, ya know, if we need donations to fund a new refectory, then the bus diver parent of a kid from Rotherham just ain't gonna cut it.
  3. 3-5 years is about on schedule for Trump to set up the whole of Alaska as a mega oil & gas production facility.
  4. How one earth could people have arrived at such a conclusion? Baffling.
  5. A lot of talk about potential injuries here but I'm the other way, I think we'll find it really difficult to go in the Citeh game with no rhythm or minutes in the legs. We need most of the players for Sunday to have spent at least a bit of time toegther on the pitch in the last six weeks...
  6. Yeah, He makes the "s*** Andy Carroll" song more pointless with every week that goes by. Which makes the d****eads who sing it even bigger d****eads.
  7. Birtles had one of the all-time terrible moustaches. Birtles, Hitler and aussie opener David Warner.
  8. Big contrast to last Sunday. Refusal at the first fence from Darwin
  9. Very readable but I was having to put it down every few pages to try and assimilate the content and how it was kind of shifting my reality.
  10. I've been re-reading it after a forty year gap since I first gave it a try (gave up part-way through back then). I think it's fair to say that it's not a page turner but giving it another go now there's enough to engage me as a more mature reader. Having said that, I'm still having to go through it in chunks and have breaks now and again because it is still a bit glacial in its pacing.
  11. That's made my day. Brilliant news.
  12. Comments on this are funny. For me it’s Shearer though.
  13. Let's Danns Put on your red shirt and Danns the Blues To the song we're singing in Anfield Let's play While Salah lights up your face etc. etc.
  14. Super - a few of those I've looked at already so that's one my wavelength. Cheers Oh, man, that looks exactly the sort of stuff I'm looking for. Thank you.
  15. The draw: Wolves or Brighton v Coventry Forest or Scum v Liverpool or Soton
  16. We're doing a bit a of a road trip this year - well, maybe more of a train trip - going to Seville (SW corner) for a few days and then bimbling across southern Spain to come home via Murcia (SE corner). Aiming to see some of the great cities like Cordoba and maybe Jaen, but after that I'm a bit errr..... Been to Granada before so it's an option but I'd rather go to somewhere I've not seen before. Suggestions of great places to visit welcomed...
  17. Was also going to suggest the fare splitting app. Gets you the cheapest fares.
  18. Regarding the wedding stuff. Yeah. my lad's engaged and planning to get married but even having a modest wedding costs an absolute fortune. The venues monetize every last aspect of it... "Basic hire is 12k" "But if you want us to put the lights on that's another 2k" "And chairs, it'll be £50 per chair" "If you want feeding it's £50 pp and you get a pork pie, some crisps and a fondant fancy for that, next level is 75 a head - for that we throw in a tomato & a sausage roll, 120 for the deluxe where we give you cutlery and a glass of sparkling water to accompany that" Wow. Glad they caught it before it got super nasty.
  19. Had one of those days where it's been a perfect storm of unforeseen financial outlay. House &Contents insurance needed to be renewed, and that was £250 more than last year. To make my house insurance viable I've had to commit to replacing my knackered old burglar alarm system. Then some of my electrics failed and the only possible solution according to my electrician mate is to actually replace the consumer unit as it is 20-od years out of date. And then to cap it all I went out this morning and found I'd got a puncture on my car. This has been a very expensive start to the week.
