Yep, that's the law of probability, why didn't the ball rebound to one of ours instead.

Yes it appears so, I was half expecting the Mancs to show signs of fatigue as well.........is the whole issue of rotation, to keep players "fresh" for the run in a load of twaddle? Or is it just that everything seems to have fallen into place for them.....no long term injuries to key players, lady luck etc etc

I think that has been the case over the past few seasons, since Chelsea came onto the scene, the bar has been raised considerably to try and win the title. That now means you cannot simply afford to have a bad start to the season. Even during the 90s and the early 00s teams that went onto to win the title did so because they had a strong finish to the league but they were not as ultra consistent as you need to be now to win the league. The past 4 title winners have finished on 90+ points. The Mancs are on course to finish on 99 points, if they win every game till the end of the season, quite remarkable.....next season we need a good start (unlike the previous two) keep pace with the leaders till Christmas.

Normally I would agree because we are generally s**** at corners, but today I felt our corners were really good, the majority of them were swung in right on the centre of the six yard box, which is where you want them to be. You just have to give credit to the Mancs defence, they defended our set pieces extremely well.

I don't think he did, Crouch was one of his substitutions and immediately made an impression on your backline, with a little more composure he would of scored. Van De Sar made a good save, but the ball broke kindly for you when he could only parry it in front of his goal in the six yard box and the ball fell straight to one of your players, whereas Reina wasn't so fortunate. A combination of lady luck and a lack of finishing on our part cost us at least a point, but we never deserved that at the end. Might as well give you the League trophy now, considering the amount of jam you have been getting recently

Simple....we just aren't good enough away from home, our home form is brilliant regardless of the result today. Rafa has made Anfield a fortress again and thats what you need to challenge for the title. Sort out that away form for next season and we have got a chance. Mancs have now won 11 games away, we have only won 5, there lies the difference. I think this kind of reflects the lack of pace in our attacking play away from home, Mancs can counter attack with frightening effect whereas ours is non existent.

It was blatantly the other way round, Saha ran into Agger and chopped down Agger in the penalty area. Watch it again if you get the chance, where the camera is side on to the incident. Anyway it didn't matter in the end, lady luck is shining on you this season in every department, its your title.

Close this thread, what a load of nonsense, I thought that was a good save from Reina considering the way it bounced and came through about two players. He did best he could, Mancs just got lucky with the run of the ball. That is just the way it goes, Van de Sar got lucky today and last week against Fulham, Reina didn't.
-
Can anyone tell me why this wasn't a penalty? Terry totally cleaned out, boot to the face, defender doesn't win the ball.
-
Totally s*** shot, wicked deflection took it in, luck is on their side when they needed it most, its the Mancs championship. Fulham should of had a pen when Van De Saar totally cleaned out Helguson.

Very true, of all the league defeats we've had so far this season, I'd say only three of them were deserved (deserved in meaning where we were totally outplayed and beaten by the better team) Those were against the Mancs, Arsenal and Bolton. The other 4 defeats namely Chelsea, Everton, Blackburn, Newcastle we dominated and controlled the games...........those very said missed chances cost us dear. 3-0 at Goodison flattered Everton, the Chelsea game we had them camped back in their own half and the most frustrating ones of all Blackburn and Newcastle. Our strikers blow hot and cold, Rafa has got a huge summer coming up, probably his biggest up to now. Liverpool are expected to challenge for the League so he needs to buy top quality players (If given the funds) and not just squad fillers.

2nd is gone now, we are scrapping for 3rd place with Arsenal. Past two weeks has been very frustrating but the performance and the result today was worse than last week. We gifted the three points today to Newcastle and they won't get an easier three points all season where they do so little in front of goal. Missed chances, lack of quality in finishing and individual errors at the back cost us big time. This game reminded me of the Blackburn game a few weeks ago, but considering Newcastle's backline that game was there for the taking. Absolutely criminal we didn't come away with three points. So gutted, Roeder knows he got out of jail big time, still in disbelief that we lost today. Finnan was our best player, Kuyt and Zenden struggled and Riise was gash.
-
Come on lads, lets kill this game off, anything less that three points today will be criminal. Garcia on for Gonzalez

Yes, I can remember reading from somewhere that since Mourinho has been at the club, Chelsea have scored the majority of their goals from set plays......I think it was something like 70%. We need to improve our delivery drastically, bring back Gary Mac!

Same old story from Liverpool, get into the final third and it breaks down almost every time. We are so toothless its unbelievable, James in goal was never really tested despite all the ball. So livid now, this is worse than the Boro away result, we have blew the chance tonight of going 3rd. What a MAJOR psychological boost that would of been if we achieved it. To be honest, so far this season in the league, I can't think of one performance where we have played really well combined with clinical finishing. Portsmouth offered nothing, can't believe we didn't take three points.....
-
0-0 HT, very average performance so far.
-
Totally, we are too soft away from home, if we concede first then we seemingly give up and bend over for the opposition. There is no fight, urgency or belief amongst the team to pull it back. May have to wait now till the 2nd December for our first away win of the league campaign, which is an absolute disgrace considering we are supposedly looking for another top 3 finish, or challenging for the league.
-
Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Middlesbrough have all left the Emirates with a point. We went there, capitulated and lost 3-0. We are just absolute garbage away from home.
-
What can you say? Boro were s****, but we weren't much better. Totally toothless in the final third. Dominated possession, dominated corner kicks, but our final ball and crossing was rubbish. Words to describe the performance? Diabolical? Painful? Awful?
-
Why is it every goalkeeper who has played for the club recently always seem to crumble after having an outstanding first season. James lost the plot Friedel lost the plot Westerveld lost the plot Dudek lost the plot Reina seemingly loosing the plot Why does it happen to us?
-
Mancs were nothing special today, I thought they played quite poorly but the problem was we were even worse! That is what so disappointing and frustrating about our performance today. It will be Chelsea all the way again, Mancs don't have enough quality overall in the squad to challenge. I think we would have of been capable if we learned how to string two passes together!
