yeah I just think theres no way newcastle will get rid of their 'trophy' after one season especially when he has spent most of it injured ,however I think they will be under intense financial pressure next year if their season turns out how I expect it will.

The problem for the Barcodes is they spent almost 30 million in the last week of summer 2005's transfer window. Other than getting gates of 50,000 a week (which they count on anyway) they have really got nothing out of that investment yet. They will more than likely be battling in the Intertoto and as was obvious last year there is no guarantees there. They surely can't spend much more this year without getting rid of a few players. I can't see though Owen being one of them. The pressure on Shepherd from the fans will be bad enough to replace Shearer.

God forbid if they sold Owen too.

as a lot of you know, i met owen last week at an MSN bash (the second of two they threw). at the one i didnt attend the view they got from him was hed love to come back, however he supposedly suggested he would give them another season and the barcodes are trying to dangle a lot of carrots in from of him - ie put him on the shearer hero worship pedastal.

 

He said to me he was adamant he could play in rafa's system and that there were no problems in his relationship with benitez. he also made it clear that he supported liverpool (lets not get into the "if he supported liverpool he wouldnt have run down his contract" etc.

 

my guess is that if rafa was that keen on him it would happen, but is owen his priority? rafa plays his cards close to his chest but hes never really seemed that bothered.
