Gerrard calls for midfield chance

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard says being played out of position for England stops him reproducing his club form for the national team.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard tends to get the nod ahead of Gerrard as England's attacking midfielder player, with Gerrard in a more withdrawn role.

"I'm not saying I should play in that role before Frank, he deserves that position," he told the Daily Mail.

"But if I got a few games there I could find the form I show for my club."

Stevie is being way too modest and diplomatic towards his chav mate. He's even contradicting himself a bit by saying he doesn't deserve to be ahead of Lampard yet at the same time is asking to play in the same position.

For me, there is no contest. Gerrard is 10 times the player Fat Frank is and the sooner that idiot Sven stops messing Gerrard about to accommodate that 'Supergoals' pr*ck, the better England's chances at the world cup.

He is, at this moment in time, a better attacking player than Lampard.

what does that mean, he is a far superior player all round not just in an attacking sense.

At Old Toilet Stevie needs to put in the performance of his life. He wants to sort that fat chav out once and for all-forget being Ingerlund buddies, put him on the running track. If he does that he can claim his proper position in the World Cup.

Our midfield, on blob, will be all over theirs but Gerrard needs to lead the way.

Souness never had any mates on the pitch.

Gerrard admits he's not been as good as Lampard....

Gerrard is one of The Premiership's most spectacular performers on his day, but the 25-year-old says his role for England has prevented him from recapturing such form on the international stage.

However Gerrard was keen to underline that Lampard fully deserved being handed the bulk of the attacking responsibilities due to his superb form for The Blues and England.

"I feel I have to alter my game when I join up with England because I'm not playing in the position I do for Liverpool," Gerrard told The Daily Mail.

"I feel that's maybe why I haven't set the world alight playing for England.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to sit here and say I should play before Frank Lampard.

"He's been absolutely tremendous over the past few years and credit to him, he deserve to play in that position.

"But I'm confident enough in my own ability to know that if I got two or three games in that role I could find the consistency I show for my club."

is that a turn of phrase or do you mean that

I mean that. Carrick and Gerrard would offer England a lot more balance than they currently have.

Surely the

Best thing that could happen for England's world cup chances
would be for Ronaldinho, henry, messi to shoot the rest of their squads and then do time.

But on a less fantastical level surely the best thing is for the two of them to stop playing like simpletons and harness what they have or to change the formation or just to drop one. I don't think that one of your best players being injured is an aid.

But they won't drop Lampard unless he gets injured. That's what I was getting at.

Gerrard is miles better tha Lampard.

Stamina, work-rate, pace, shooting, passing, team-work..

There's no better midfielder.

Gerrard definitely works harder, is quicker and far better in the tackle but shooting and passing ? I think Lampard is definitely a better shooter, especially from set pieces. They are both excellent passers of the ball.

I don't think Lampard has Gerrard's range or vision in passing but in the shooting I reckon Stevie's got the harder shot but FL's are more accurate.

doesn't matter anyway the lack of a quality defensive midfielder like hamman, or makelele is what will ruin englands chances ,I certainly don't think either carrick or parker are the answer ,I would rather see carragher doing that role than either of them two .

It's about what?s best for the team though. Because Gerrard is, unlike Lampard, very versatile he can play in most position and excel. It?s just like with Liverpool, Gerrard is in my opinion better (and different) than Sissoko and Alonso but sometimes he is played out wide (RM) for the best of the team.

Aye, I struggle to remember any lampard dream balls

I've seen him hit loads of great passes. One that comes to mind is to Joe Cole against arsenal at highbury and cole ended up scoring. Lampard's got a lovely pass on him but i reckon stevie's outright vision is better.
