fyds Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I told you that he would score from his own half at some point this season! Fyds in gets one right shocker....
guernseygareth Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 i did think of you when that gem went in - gerrard's reaction was a bit like mine!
anny road Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I won £20 off a Manc mate... The day after Sunderland away, I was telling him that Xabi would do this after I saw him paractising shooting from the half way line for 10 mins when everyone else had gone off in the warm up He said "no chance"......and took the bet....and the bugger paid up this morning...
Alonso Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 That Xabi must have thighs of steel. 1144340Careful, you will get some people on here too excited about mentioning Xabi's thighs!!!!
Stevie H Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 in the 90th minute, knackered, on that quagmire of a pitch, and with his wrong foot, he scores from around 70 yards. what composure. the man's a god.
KD07 Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 If he doesn't keep this up, we might have to sell him.
Stevie H Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 i think that his first goal might even be better than his second one. how he got that first one to dip like that is beyond me. i was convinced it was deflected at first.

I'll just score one/maybe two from a total of over a 100 yards.'
Guest Anders Honoré Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 i think that his first goal might even be better than his second one. how he got that first one to dip like that is beyond me. i was convinced it was deflected at first.1144375 I agree. One of the best lobs I have ever seen in my life, if not THE best. You'll rarely see anyone score two goals of such immense class in the same game. phenomenal. He must hold the world record for most yards between him and the goal for goals scored in a match now. About 110, I'd say.
Guz Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 His 1st was much better imo. His 2nd was good and took skill, composure and a bit of bottle but it *was* an open goal and trickled in after a couple of bounces, I think quite a few premiership players would've fancied it but it was still a class goal. His 1st was just an unbelievable strike of power and precision. You'll rarely see anyone score two goals of such immense class in the same game. phenomenal. Had this discussion last night. Rooney vs Boro last year came to mind . Also remember Robert a fewyears ago for the geordies scoring two screamers from about 35 yards out. Not sure who it was agains though? Rivaldo hatrick vs Valencia (?). There's been a few but rare as you say
Zoob Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 After Alonso's first goal, a friend texted me to ask me if I thought Alonso had meant it. Strange question I know, but my friend is a Leicester fan, so isn't familiar with the genius of Alonso. I replied by saying of course he meant it; he's nearly scored from the half way line before. Then Alonso goes and scores his second, and my mate was just astonished, and that was before I told him Alonso had scored it with his 'wrong' foot... The man really is a footballing God.

Ronnie Whelan Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Does anyone know why the goals arent on e-season?

Ronnie Whelan Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 They are on BBC website1144792 Thanks mate.
Ombudsam Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Alonso's total yardage for his two goals is the same as all of RvNs combined
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 I thought the ref was gonna blow for FT & not give it. If he'd played the ball to Stevie, the ref surely would have as we were over the 93mins mark
Earl Hafler Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Imagine being the bloke with the 25 grand betting slip if he'd done that !

Ombudsam Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'm told, although I am yet to see proof that that very thing happened in the derby! It was late on in the 99/00 season at goodison wasn't it. Hutchinson walked across Westerveld who idiotically whacked the ball against him and it went in.
Euphrates Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Nah he means the last one, Alonso took a shot, and the camera didn't show it go in because the whistle had blown midway. Allegedly.
