Here's something that might interest a few of you.

 

How much is the £2.5 we paid for Hyypia in today's market? The real cost of Liverpool players since Premier League. An interesting take on Liverpool's most expensive players in the last 20 years.

Depressing reading, some of that - Ciaae, Hesley and Carroll top 3.

 

Theres still hope for Carroll.

 

Heskey and Cisse had very good and good first seasons hadnt they? Then it went downhill from there.

 

Im glad Leonhardsen made the list tho.

Don't recall Cisse ever having a good season.

 

Scored 19 one season as a forward/winger - same season Gerrard got 23 when he played RM/CM/AM.

 

He did alright that season - not great, but he was useful.

Tbh, I think Babbs price is realistic - if you compare the price of Jones at Utd and what Babb had achieved when we signed him I don't think it's too far off the mark.

 

I was made up when we signed him, saying that, I did once write to the Echo demanding that we bring Dion Dublin to the club as our domineering centre back so maybe I wasn't the best judge..

Didn't think he'd got that many. He was sort of useful on the wing, just for the raw pace he had. And he was ALWAYS ready to take on a full back.

 

If he had any understanding of the offside trap, he'd have been great. My main memory of him is just frustration.

Poor Djib, great goal in the cup final (and against the blues). And fond memories of all the talk about how we were getting CARNAGE for a couple of seasons before he signed, and then...

Cisse's cameo 'performance' in the FA Cup Semi Final was an abomination.

 

Also; Diouf at £20m? The horror...

 

Although, on the plus side, Robbie Keane is getting cheaper.

17 in 52 apparently. 9 in 33 in the League. Not too bad, really. Frustrating player though, and not in the Garcia way either. Just a weird, frustrating player.

 

Find it odd he only played 2 seasons at LFC - thought he was here longer.

He must have been here longer - he was out for two nine month periods with mangled legs.

 

He was out on loan for an extra year as well. That's when he broke his leg for the 2nd time.

19 in 54. LFC history You're right about the 9 in 33 though.

I'm not convinced by the methodology.

 

"Divide the value paid by the average transfer value for the season he was bought, then multiply by the average transfer value of the current season – this effectively inflates the player’s value to current terms."

 

But you might well have an anomalous season in which there's not much high-value transfer activity (for instance, because the top teams are happy with their squad that year), and any signings we did make that year would seem artificially expensive.

Exactly. It's a very flawed analysis . When you look at the season on season variations there are a few clear spikes. The fella needed to draw a graph and smooth this out.

 

Cisse and Heskey seem to be bought in seasons where the pattern seems to have gone askew. It's clear that the biggest signings hugely define the average, and if one year more clubs buy big at the same time it throws the average way out.

Thought he settled well into the wide role in the second half of that season.

 

He was annoying to watch due to his moaning and lazy attitude, but he would have been a good player to hold on to. But that can be said of many players we had during Rafa's tenure and Cisse is not particularly special among that roost. The revolving door really was swinging too quickly under rafa some times.

We shafted Bellamy and Crouch to get Torres. And Keane. And probably John Terry too, and whoever else the media were in love with at the time.
