Woodsyla Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 None of our rivals significantly strengthened, Harry had a face like a slapped a*** (more so that usual) and we got Bellers on a free and offloaded Wait for it ....... Degen, Ngog, Poulsen and Cole Also got £12m for a player who as split fans opinion and doesn't appear to 'fit' our style of play going forward. Obviously looking at the window as a whole it's a different picture (we did great but so did others) but what a great deadline day, the icing on the cake being of course ........... Arteta to Arsenal.
Cisse Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Fantastic window and i believe we already have plans for Cahill and Hazard in January/June.
David Hodgson Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Fantastic window and i believe we already have plans for Cahill and Hazard in January/June. Go on......

Tones Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 The whole window had been pretty good. Strengthened the squad, got rid if a lot of crap and saved loads on wages. I don't feel we are strong enough for a title challenge but we are rebuilding the squad and that takes time. We are on the right track.
Chili Palmer Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Could have done without Stoke signing so many players just before we play them though! Was having a conversation along these lines in the pub the other day, what luck do you need to win the league? Be lucky with injuriesBe lucky with suspensionsDon't play a newly promoted team away in the first few gamesDon't play a team that has just signed a load of new players earlyDon't play a team when they have just changed managerDon't get Howard Webb as ref at utd away.
Boca Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 would have been perfect if we'd kept Raul He didn't want to be here. He wasn't in the first team. Gerrard is coming back. He didn't want to be here.

Arteta to Arsenal. Easily our best i'd say, I don't get why a load of people are slagging Raul off, he helped change the Arsenal game and showed glimpses of what he could do if given a run - saying that If he wanted to go though then I'm fine with him being sold. I also think Commolli deserves a bit of praise, how many times under Parry did we have players that contributed nothing to the squad except drain us of millions every year? Within two windows he's managed to do deals that'll save us a fortune this year. At the start of January the board would've had three aims: lower the age of the squad, improve it's quality and get rid of the deadwood draining the wage budget - we've managed to do all of that in one window and imo we've filled the holes in the squad and now we'll just be looking for that one or two top quality players to go straight into the team. When we paid over the odds for Carroll I was a bit worried about where we were heading financially but this window shows we have people in charge that actually know what they're doing - it's very confusing..
Mike Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 would have been perfect if we'd kept Raul We told Mereiles he should look for another club at the start of the window. He's done nothing wrong here, we were clearly playing some game of brinkmanship with Chelsea to do this so late. Does anyone really think we weren't in total control of our own affairs this transfer window? It's been impressive to watch. Firstly, FSG invested big up front to buy all the players we needed to completely overhaul the squad, then one by one Commoli got rid of the entire quota of deadwood clogging up the squad. This in turn leaves us with the dream squad scenario - Strong first teamers with a clear path for the academy/reserves to pick up the slack and be given first team opportunities. Perfect.

It's amazing what a clear, well planned, and decisive plan of action can achieve. All working together helps. (Didn't know that about Raul, no wonder he always looked in a foul mood lately, is that why he was rude to your missus?)

Perfect. You're right in every respect there, it's the perfect transfer window, the club is so obviously pulling together and making the right decision every time.I reckon Raul wasn't ever happy not to be a first teamer and Chelsea business happened so late because of their Modric pursuit. Total respect and kudos to Damien Comolli and the owners, I think it's fair to say they've exceeded all our expectations.

Tones Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 If Spurs had accepted the 40 million for modric then meireles would still be here. So I won't go as far as to say we were in total control of everything that went on in this window. But I don't think we will miss him much and probably wanted him to leave as much as he wanted to go.

I had forgotten about that. Actually, the gambit looks very clear then. Forcing a transfer request = higher transfer fee for us. Or at least not having to pay him a loyalty bonus.

That doesn't mean we weren't in control. Has a builder ever given you an extorniate quote because he doesn't want the job? It's not dissimilar - You can leave, but on our terms. The press have consistently said that we ' wouldn't stand in his way' which is another way of saying you should consider your future with us.

Conrad Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) Doubt Coates will play without an injury You think Coates will play with an injury? Youre right, it'll be Carragher and Agger. Anyway, best window for clearing out deadwood, that's for sure. And we kept Pepe! Edited September 1, 2011 by Heighway 61 Revisited
Mike Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Doubt Coates will play without an injury What, he likes an injury? As in it get's him up for the game?
johngibo YPC Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 f***ing right it is, uber awesomeness We keep putting Gerrard on the right on these things, but I wouldn't be suprised if he plays most games in the middleThink its Lucas/Adam/Gerrard playing for 2 placesBut we shall see what Kenny has planned What, he likes an injury? As in it get's him up for the game? I phrased that awfully, didn't I

No reason why he cant join in the fun in the middle too. Kenny's system is very flexible it seems, and I love it.
