Talk about rotation of squads like it's the right thing to do, especially when the other big teams do it...

but a few years ago were on Rafa's case constantly when he did it...

hypocrisy at it's finest....the state of commentary is appalling sometimes...

Do what you want if you win.

Ranieri was the first to get really clobbered for it and he was doing it before Rafa came over here and discovered that English food is obviously far more tasty than Spanish food.

Ah, but you must win in the league!

It's the same now with zonal marking - Rafa got slaughtered for it, but Andy Gray (i think it was) mentioned how Arsenal are now marking zonally from set pieces, and said how good it was! I kid you not. Nearly spat my drink out when i heard him.

Its a bit of an exaggeration by fans to say people get 'slaughtered' for this kind of thing. The press are simply scapegoat hungry, and detailed analysis doesn't give good headline. Therefore, they have default criticisms ready and waiting for all managers in the even of a couple of defeats. If Man ud ever had a run of 3 games without winning it would be 'Fergie's lost the plot !', because he's getting on and therefore at risk of dementia. With Wenger it's now all about 'bottle', for the studious Ranieri it was about 'tinkering', and for Rafa 'rotation'.

you have to almost exclusively ignore the mainstream media when it comes to tactical and formation issues. steve claridge is radio 5's tactics expert. you're better off sticking to jonathan wilson and zonalmarking.net and just ignore or drown with music every word the TV and radio lot come out with.

Was Alan Smith. Mr Gray hasn't been on Sky for a while. Think he might have a cold or something

Ray Wilkins during Bolton game -

On Suarez - "He does give good facials doesn't he"?

The way Parry pronounced "Soo-ar-ez" was deeply irritating. Fluid, Alan. Fluid.

:D Couldnt remember if i'd heard it on sky or the radio, but yeah, 'twas Smith. I'd assumed it was Gray on the wireless.

Which is all fine and good but Rafa still gets slaughtered in the press from time to time, whereas Woy gets off scott free for HIS crimes. There is more to it than just looking for a scapegoat.
