As usual, some perspective is required here. We might not have got some of the players we want, and the Mancs and others will, and have already, strengthened well.

However, there are a number of positives out there.

1) We won't start this season handicapped by The Hodge.

2) In the last quarter of last season we played some of the best footie I've seen us play in years. Great footie to watch, and pretty successful.

3) We did the above without key players, in Gerrard and Carroll, who will be coming straight back into our first XI fit and refreshed.

4) We have strengthened by adding at least one very good player,Henderson, who will no doubt improve our squad in the short term, and our first XI as well.

5) I'm not expecting us to win the league, but the opposition we need to catch isn't too far ahead of us. United have gotten stronger, but not in centre mid (their main area of weakness-for me). Not yet, anyway. Chelsea aren't a great side, have a number of players that are knocking on,and a manager about whom the jury is still out. Plus an owner with an itchy trigger finger. City are City, and Arsenal will always be Arsenal (although I think they'll improve this summer).

6. It's great fun following LFC again. Mainly due to Kenny. Which is what it's all about isn't it? Enjoying the game and loving the club.

7. So everybody cheer the f*ck up.

8. We have Kelly coming back and hopefully fully fit.

9. We have youngsters we KNOW we can now depend on (Flanagan, Robinson, Spearing)

Overall you are correct. But Carroll coming back hindered 2, so 3 can't necessarily be seen as a positive.

And we shall see on 4

And 5 is largely nonsense as well. Utd will buy a CM, and the Chelsea manager is boss and will spend

But 6 is right, and most important anyway

The Chelsea manager is boss? We'll see on that one. In my eyes,he's relatively unproven. The Chelsea job is a whole more pressurized than the Porto job.

And it's one thing spending,it's another putting together a side. Especially one riddled with egos like Chelsea.

As for Henderson,he's obviously an improvement on Poulson,at the very least. He has the potential to be very good indeed.

Carroll - I reckon a fit Carroll will be a totally different prospect. And I can't believe we'll go into the new season without a winger to put balls into the box for him to nod home.Who that is,I'm not quite sure.

Big jump from that to improving our first eleven

But we'll wait and see on Henderson, Villas Boas, Carroll and this mystery winger (Charlie Adam playing left midfield)

Seriously though I am not happy with this age thing regarding new players. There needs to be a balance between players bought for now and later. To much one way and it fails. Without Gary Mac the treble might never of happened.

We've only bought one player

That's fair enough, we shall wait and see.

The current squad has a decent balance but it's probably top heavy with older players on silly wages, many of them rotting away on the bench. No point adding to that this summer.

I would just take the hit on all of them.
