Zoob Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Couldn't find this elsewhere... Amid all the Dalglish joy, I didn't notice until now that City had bought Edin Dzeko for 27 million quid... I know City pay a premium on every transfer, but that seems an insane amount of money. Seems a good goal scorer, and fairy strong physically, but paying so much for a striker who has done well in the Bundesliga seems very very risky (can't think of many attacking players who have taken goal scoring in Germany and transferred that successfully to the Prem.... Anyone seen enough of him to have an opinion on how he'll do in England? And holy fek - how much have City spend on forwards in the last couple of years...
Epic Swindle Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Stupid money. He's done nothing yet. I bet he's on upwards of 150 K per week as well.
Dominus Maximus Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I follow the Bundesliga, and I really don't see how this is too much money. He is a fantastic striker, and I'm really sad that City have managed to sign him. He'll be worth every penny.
Stevie H Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 time was it would have been chelsea and united battling it out to sign this guy in january.
ChrisC Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Two good feet and great in the air, think he'll do well.
ManxRed Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 and fairy strong physically, So, not strong at all then?
Foo Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 You can't compare him to Voronin and Erik Meijer. Liverpool got what they paid for, Dzeko isn't bad at all. I'm afraid he'll do well.
johngibo YPC Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 time was it would have been chelsea and united battling it out to sign this guy in january. Wenger admitted he really liked him, but the price was too high for them
Tones Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 What have they spent on strikers in recent years? AFAIK its roughly: Robinho £32mSanta Cruz £18mBellamy £12mTevez £25mAdabeyor £32mBallotelli £30m +Jo £18mDzeko £27m Any i have missed / gotwrong?

Tones Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Bojinov - 6 mBianchi - 9 mMpenza - 6 m Was Nery Castillo in only on loan?? Forgot about those! Did Benjani cost them a few quid too or was he out of contract?
Damian_de Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Dzeko has struggled for form when played as a lone striker - he himself says he plays best off a frontman - so it will be interesting to see how City think they can use him.
Zoob Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 You can't compare him to Voronin and Erik Meijer. Liverpool got what they paid for, Dzeko isn't bad at all. I'm afraid he'll do well. I wasn't comparing him to those 2 but was making a general comment about attacking players from the bundesliga struggling in the Prem. I know there's not been loads, but I can only think of those who have underwhelmed. The big fee is no guarantee of success... ... so City have spent about 200 million on Forwards in the last 3 or so years
DazzlaJ Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Two good feet and great in the air, think he'll do well. Douglas Bader

épieur Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I think Adebayour was 30m. And IIRC Balotelli onl4 24m. I believe Jo was 20m though. Insane. And that was before the current owners.
Epic Swindle Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Always thought he was more of a target man but he was dropping into the hole a lot today. Not the quickest either
Damian_de Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Always thought he was more of a target man but he was dropping into the hole a lot today. Not the quickest eitherNever been a target man, really struggled when playing as a lone forward in Germany.
Zoob Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 Now that Carroll has broken his duck, and I can't incite the mocker gods (unless they remember this and punish me next season) I'm having to wonder once again about the wisdom of spending 27 million on a striker from the Bundeliga. Torres is taking the heat off him, and he has scored 4 cup goals (against rubbish teams), but 9 league games, 0 goals is pretty dire...
John am Rhein Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 once again confirmation that being successful in the Bundesliga does not necessarily indicate a good player
windy city red Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 once again confirmation that being successful in the Bundesliga does not necessarily indicate a good player suitability to the premiership a tad harsh arent you?
Damian_de Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Dzeko has struggled for form when played as a lone striker - he himself says he plays best off a frontman - so it will be interesting to see how City think they can use him.Think we are seeing how well that is turning out.
