Mick_G Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Looks like another international injury Just seen this on the BBC match report :Lyon's Michel Bastos was pressed into emergency service at left-back for Brazil following an injury to Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio, and he demonstrated his attacking prowess with a low, angled drive that beat Foster but flew inches wide.

Tony, I've said it before, but it calls for it again : This is an outrage.
Red Kent Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember. I for one am shocked that your happy-go-lucky 'get behind the boys' persona has been shattered by this somewhat negative comment.
Benzo-13 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember.Kewell?? Redknapp??? Rob Jones????
Falconhoof Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember. If there's no money for a replacement ?
kop205 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Kewell?? Redknapp??? Rob Jones???? Michael Stensgaard? Wayne Harriosn? Daniel Agger?
AE Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 If there's no money for a replacement ? We could sell Torres and that should be able to play for a few players contracts for a couple of years.
Benzo-13 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Michael Stensgaard? Wayne Harriosn? Daniel Agger?Harrison's the winner. Don't think he was ever not injured?
AE Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Michael Owen?! Wasn't too bad for us (compared to those above)It was Newcastle he never played for, but there again who can blame him
lfc003 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Its not a new injury, He pulled out the squad a few days ago
Frosty Jack Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember. ffs kev
Red Kent Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 ffs kev Since he signed, he's played in 95 out of 180 odd games. That's half of the games he's missed and the majority of those misses has been through injury, when he's fit 9 times out of 10 he gets a shirt.
Gunga Din Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 ffs kev its a fair point though, his career has been littered with injuries, and if he cant stay fit then we should be looking at getting rid
kop205 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Since he signed, he's played in 95 out of 180 odd games. That's half of the games he's missed and the majority of those misses has been through injury, when he's fit 9 times out of 10 he gets a shirt. I'm surprised he has played that many actually. I suppose he was 'lucky' that his big injury - the achilles - stradled the summer. He 'only' missed about 3 months or so of football (so maybe 20 games?) with that in the end which isn't bad all things considered - says someone who 2 months post-achilles repair op is still in a protective boot and looking at a good while yet before I can do any decent exercise again! He is harldy our 'most injured player ever' but I can understand why people would be reluctant to renew his contratc to be honest. It isn't as if he is going to become more robust with age.
Rimbeux Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I think we shouldn't renew his contract, he's injured more time than any other player I can remember. Is probably right, it wouldn't make much sense to keep a bloke who has proven to be only available half the time and is far from irreplaceable.
Frosty Jack Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 but we've got no f***ing money!he's the best LB and arguably the best LM at the club. we got him on a free knowing his injury record. with him in the team, we tend to play better. its really not the time to be talking about shipping out quality players, injuries or not. how much would a fit left back of aurelios quality cost us?
Red Kent Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 another website has gone deeper into this. He averaged 16 games per season at Valencia 21 games with us, and averages one goal and three assists per season. He's 30 now, I honestly dont think he's worth or earned another contract.
Jarg Armani Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 no point getting rid of anyone if they'll be replaced with someone worse or no-one at all.
Red Kent Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 no point getting rid of anyone if they'll be replaced with someone worse or no-one at all. Not much point in keeping something that spends more than half his life in the sick bed.
mm2259 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Not much point in keeping something that spends more than half his life in the sick bed. Yeah, we should have got rid of Smicer earlier than we did.
Jarg Armani Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Not much point in keeping something that spends more than half his life in the sick bed. it's a calculated risk though. he's probably not on huge wages, nobody will give us any money for him anyway, and he is one of our most skilful players. then we have to start looking at how much to spend on his replacement, half the forum will say we don't need anyone, buy a striker, the other half will say insua and dossena aren't good enough, spend a decent sum on a proven player. i just can't be arsed with the hassle of it all. this season is doing my head in. carry on.
