As we know the club is already struggling as it is to spend anything on player transfers and squad improvements and the CL revenue is hugely relevant for our American owners. If we were to not qualify for the CL where would that leave us? What implications does it have on the owners and will we be asset stripped and therefore be on a downward spiral. Is it not possible to have some sort of government legislation protect us as our finances are not due to excessive spending on transfers etc. Are we in real danger of being another Leeds?

They are very much dependent on CL revenue to stay afloat in terms of refinancing and loan interest repayments.

 

I would go so far as to say that defeat on Weds night will put them under serious pressure.

The most serious implication of falling out of the top 4 is that I don't think we would get back in it for a while.

 

Assuming it is City that supplant us, you could expect their owners to ratchet up their spending again.

 

Whearas we would have less revenue to add to the already difficult financial position.

 

Add to that the degrading of our attraction to top players who demand CL football and it would be catastrophic.

 

Arsenal seem to be on the up again & the Mancs & Chelsea arent going anywhere.

 

We are in a very, very bad place if we don't finish 4th.

it would result in player sales with Torres being the most valuable asset at the moment.. The American apologists on here do not see that and blame Rafa.. Leeds were not as big as Liverpool back then but they are a big club and among the top 10 in England

And just like the management hypothesis of "who'd you get to replace Rafa", who would replace G&H that would be so worth this absolute catastrophe you'd accept?

 

I'm no apologist for G&H but this idea that whoever will take over from them will automatically pump cash in to the club and solve our problems might be the single biggest self delusion Liverpool fans have convinced themselves of in 20 years.

My thought about your question is that we'll become a selling club. I'm not sure we could become another Leeds but not accruing the CL revenue would probably mean we'd have a 'trade deficit' that only selling players could make up.

What you're hoping for is someone to come in and spend their own money to buy the club and its debt without any reasonable expectation of a return on their investment in the medium term. How realistic is that? Far more realistic is a trope of G&H - running the club to service a huge debt (existing debt or that required to fund a new stadium).

 

Apologies for putting words in your mouth and I'm not having a go but we have debt and will continue to have debt until it's paid off by whatever business model the club is run on or until someone buys the debt - an Abramovich of some degree.
