I'd be gutted if I was a Celtic fan.

Hardly a progressive appointment although I appreciate that it's difficult for them to attract the cream.

They will be delighted with this. He was loved there as a player and he has his teams play attractive football.

He's a damn good manager. He just hasn't got the media hype that a lot of the crap managers who make fans happy for the first 3 months have.

nah, he'll be loved there, he brings Grant with him and they'll have the supporters on their side from day 1.

plus he plays good football which will win things up there.

how on earth will he do a press conference in Glasgow.

he was hard enough to understand at an English press conference.

he'll have Celtic relegated in 2 years, then back up their PL, then back down etc. etc.

In theory, yes but the early reaction from some fans seemed to be less than positive.

I know he's an ex player, likes to play good football and all that s**** but can he do any better in Europe than Strachan? They're not interested in the league, they take winning that as a given.

Whichever way you look at it, the appointment of a man who's spent over half the season bottom of the table (admittedly in a much tougher league) isn't one that inspires huge confidence.

Trust me, Celtic fans will be very happy with him, don't be fooled by sky or talksport finding the odd balloon who isn't happy about anything. And Celtic fans do care about winning the league, beating Rangers means more to them than a CL game believe it or not.

He was the Celtic boards first choice as soon as Strachan quit.

He's a damn good manager.

A damn good manager that couldn't see that signing Kevin Phillips to a new contract was crucial to them having a chance of staying up.

Or realising that signing a replacement for him was crucial to them having a chance of staying up.

Or realising that signing a half-decent centre-half was crucial to them having a chance of staying up.

I actually think that he's a good manager, but a bit too much like the Arsene Wenger of Championship football for my liking.

It will be interesting to see who they sign,he'll try to get them playing decent football which the fans will love.

Won't exactly draw in the BiG NaMEz though.

I think thats the SPL in general, not any manager.

Of course they care about winning the league, what I meant was that they take that as a given. As for Sky and talksport as examples, what's the difference between them and those that post on here - they're still fans who have an opinion like anybody else. For the record, one of the dissenters was a mate from Scotland who's a proper footy man through and through and he said that whilst he'll get a good reception, he's not convinced that he can improve them any further or, crucially, be able to attract the sort of players needed to help them improve.

If I was on the Celtic board, I'd have been setting my sights higher than that. As an example, Martin O'Neill had a much, much higher profile than Mowbray when he went up there. Why not target another bright, young manager who's overachieved with his current team - not something that Mowbray has done.

Didn't he lose his wife or something like that while playing for them?

All I have heard from celtic fans is that he is really loved over there, and to be honest his record in england isn't any worse Strachan's when he moved there

No big names are going to go to the SPL thesedays. Thats not a reason to get a manager up there. And your mate is completely wrong if he thinks Mowbray will struggle to improve that dross that Strachan had them playing up there.

Celtic is never going to attract an up and coming manager due to the league they play in, Martinez, Coyle, Moyles all said they would rather stay in the PL, you can't blame them. Celtic know they had to cut their cloth to suit and Mowbray fits what they need.

Yeah, his wife died of cancer while he was there and the club did alot for him and his family as you would expect.

Tough one this for me. Don't like Celtic, do like Mowbray. I'll just have to hope he gets them playing nice football and achieves a creditable runners up spot in every competition.
