Don't blame the player - I'm sure he doesn't want to be injured.

Blame Rafa and the club for signing a player with a horrendous injury record over the course of the last few years, and expecting him to be anything but injury prone.

But he didnt have a horrendous injury record over the last few years. He got injured in the December before the window we signed him and then had a rehash of the injury. He wasnt played in the last few games for Dortmund because he wouldnt sign a new contract.

Not even our best doctors could have predicted the season he's had with respect to injuries. He wasnt at all like Aurelio at his previous clubs. Whether we ship him off this summer will be interesting to see, if we dont its fairly clear that the doctors think that this season has just been unlucky and that his situation will improve with the right training regime.

Factually incorrect, and a nonsense that this sort of view is seen as accurate by anyone.

Wiki tells me 68 games in 3 seasons at dortmund. So abar 23 games a season. Which isn't too bad

He also managed to play 29 times for Switzerland in that time

Ooh, brokedown further

03 - 04 = played 39 games for club (Basel)

04 - 05 = played 44 games for club (Basel)

2005-06 = playes 34 games for club (BD)

06 - 07 = played 29 games for club (BD)

07 - 08 = played 12 games for club

So it only really seems to be his last season where he had a bad one, so worth taking a chance on injury wise you could argue

Maybe, just maybe, Rafa thought he's worth a go since Rafa was operating on a limited budget, Degen was on a free, and if he could regain his fitness he could provide Arbeloa with serious competition. Similar situation to Aurelio, actually.

But what the hell does Rafa know ...

there were probably similar threads about aurelio in his first season here and now he is the best player in the world

we will see the best of Degen in 2010/11

He'll be bionic, carved from tungsten, kevlar, carbon fibre and paper clips.
