Any chance of Masch overturning the booking?

Or is the c*** of a ref going to claim it was for kicking the ball away? Though he clearly made the "there, there and there" gesture to say he was booking him for persistent fouling - that should make it obvious he was mistaken in booking Masch? I thought cards given in the group stages were wiped out after the group stages anyway.

A blot on a perfect evening.

even the if it was for kicking the ball away its harsh as the ref had not even finished blowing his whistle when Masch kicked it.

there's no appeal for a yellow so it won't get overturned. Ref's not going to voluntarily admit it was wrong.

I thought you could in a case of mistaken identity...but you're right, the s***house ref won't admit he got it wrong.

It was stupid cos he kicked it before the decision had even been given. Wish he would calm down a bit tho at decisions. See stevie push him away at one point?

I think it was for a foul earlier in the move, the ref had played advantage.

Well, I'm certainly not going to castigate the ref. He gave us a penalty, he sent off Marco Matarazzi last season, and was also the official at the Juventus game at Anfield when we won 2-1 in 2005. If we'd had the Belgian at the Chelsea semi last year instead of the Italian, we would have faced Manu in Moscow, and who knows, we would be playing for no7 this year.

I'll castigate the ref for being s***. After the penalty he gave them everything to make up for it.

it was a bit harsh but he does raise his arm.

It was never a penalty. Hit his shoulder and not his arm.

But I'm not complaining. ;)

Depends where in the rules the shoulder ends and the arm begins. IMO that was his arm he raised. I've never seen a player 'raise' a shoulder to make a block. That was a deliberate attempt to use the arm.

Never a pen but it begs the question, why did Heinze flap his arms out wide ? If he had of kept his arms by his side then it would never have been given

It was never a pen, but I thought it was first time I saw it in real speed so you can't really blame the lino for giving it.

agree with all of those. Plus he flipped the ball over & behind Arbeloa, which at full speed makes it certainly look intentional

Macherano says that the ref told him when he booked him that it was for kicking the ball away so no chance of the booking being overturned even though it was the wrong decision

The interview with Masch is at http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090311-1105.htm - it's a compilation vid with Kuyt, Spearing & Torres as well being interviewed after the match - it's one of the official site's occasional free to watch vids

We should appeal that on principle as the ref whistles AFTER Masch kicks the ball, pathetic.
