R A Softlad Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 The Spanish team's players were angry after the striker went down in the box, despite no contact with the defender. "He apologised to me and said he didn't mean to do that," said boss Ferguson. "I think he's been watching (Villarreal forward) Robert Pires too much. At least he apologised to their players. You'd never see Pires do that." Ferguson also said he believes that teams are fouling United's Cristiano Ronaldo so often referees think the winger is diving. Oh, ok then... it must be alright.
ManxRed Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 RA, check out the last three pages of the 'Tonights Euro Games' thread below this one for a detailed dissection of this, and the usual conversation about what a massive graceless c*nt Ferguson is!! Surprisingly, NWR thinks differently.
Sion Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) Ronaldo, Rooney and co are allowed to dive in the eyes of united fans, with one or two perhaps thinking it's a bit 'naughty'But Gerrard has the nerve to go down easily and he's all of a sudden labelled a cheat/other silly hypocritical insult. That is not true. We are just like you lot as in we do look for cantact and then support our player. An example we all know about is Gerrards dive that won you another CL. There was slight contact and thats how you justify it, but the truth is, it was a dive. Hey MarkD I take it you dont want that win then? But diving is not accepted by most United fans. Like I said, at the moment I would gladly sell Ronaldo because of his antics.

There was slight contact and thats how you justify it, but the truth is, it was a dive. When did this become a truth then? or is it another famous redcafe myth? Why would Gerrard dive when he's running through on goal? especially knowing a) he wasn't on penalty duty and b) he would probably have a better chance of scoring then than we would with a pen. at the moment I would gladly sell Ronaldo because of his antics. You would gladly sell one of the world's best players and without doubt your most important player because he dives?
R A Softlad Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 An example we all know about is Gerrards dive that won you another CL. Did he bo**ocks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7zB6o6nHXQ
Billy Talbot Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 An example we all know about is Gerrards dive that won you another CL. I'm not sure you'll get a lot of change out of that around here... Neither will you get much change out of pointing out how hypocritical people are being for calling out your players for diving. Liverpool players don't all have 100% record of playing of 100% Corinthian spirit 100% of the time but any deviance from that ideal pales into insignificance when compared with your current crop of shysters.
smithdown Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 When did this become a truth then? or is it another famous redcafe myth? It's a manc thing. Nobody else says he dived, not even Milan players/supporters.
carrafan Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 It's a manc thing. Nobody else says he dived, not even Milan players/supporters. Actually a lot of guys do. I know Arsenal and Chelsea fans who say the same as well. Is falling down with minimal contact better than diving where there is none?
Sion Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I know Arsenal and Chelsea fans who say the same as well. Bitterness Not many neutrals will call that a dive.
Tommy Cockles Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Bitterness Not many neutrals will call that a dive. As if you would dive in that position. Loons
smithdown Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 As if you would dive in that position. Loons We should have sold him if he took a dive in that position. Subbed him and sacked him. But he never so we didn't.
Coyler Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) I reckon Gerrard dived in Istanbul. Nothing got to do with Ferguson's latest unseemly comments. Edited November 26, 2008 by Coyler
Tones Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Gerrard went down easy in Istanbul but he was fouled unlike Rooney against Villareal. Ferguson mentioning Pires is a real low life comment, but its what you would expect from him.

NWR Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Bitterness Not many neutrals will call that a dive. This includes Everton fans, Bolton, Aston villa, Spurs, Millwall, West ham, Watford and Citeh fans. Tbh everybody I know down south and up north who does not support Liverpool. But hey! What the hell do we know?
NWR Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I thought you wanted to sell him cos he didn't want to play for yous? Wouldnt you say "Antics" covers just about everything?
Murphman Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I reckon Gerrard dived in Istanbul. Nothing got to do with Ferguson's latest unseemly comments. Did he f*ck.
Knoxy Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Gerrard has dived on occasion, no where to the extent of the likes of Ronaldo (obviously) or even Rooney, Istanbul wasn't one of those occasions. The mancs like to paint him as a serial diver to defend against attacks by all the evil ABUs on horrible players such as Ronaldo. It's a bit strange and doesn't work - a bit like Demento's needless attack on Pires, just makes him look smalltime and is cringeworthy.
Ostrich Man Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 a couple of utd players dive....one does it more than others but then alot of the time he gets accused of it its not a dive at all...rooney does it sometimes but I wouldnt label him a diver as such and if you are going to label him a diver then id say all strikers all divers. Its never good to see however and Fergie shouldve just left it at he apologised to the spanish players without mentioning Pires.
Ostrich Man Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Id say gerrard goes down as easily as rooney when the opportunity arises.
Logic Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Id say gerrard goes down as easily as rooney when the opportunity arises. When SG "dives" it is most of the time a foul anyway, he's maybe guilty of making it look worse. Your c*nts go down without being touched and then at the same time cry for a foul. There's a big difference between the two.
Ostrich Man Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I disagree. and a circle ever spinning etc
Hassony Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Id say gerrard goes down as easily as rooney when the opportunity arises. Id say most men do (apart from Anders perhaps)

That's just daft. Some strikers don't dive at all, whereas Rooney clearly does. Ronaldo has made his own bed, both by diving and his OTT rolling about like a girl when he actually is fouled
