......who

a) thought it would be a good idea to bring out PINK boots, and

b) then got the brain wave to get Franck "almost as ugly as Luke Chadwick" Ribery to ( ) 'model' them

Hasn't Luke Chadwick had some "work done". I saw a picture of him in the paper the other day and he looks a little bit different to his United days.

My lad has the new Adipure's, they're almost identical to the boots I used to wear Adidas Santiago, and they look fantastic.

Pink FFS!!!

Adidas Santiago? Jeez - that's going back - bet you had a pair of George Best Stylo matchmakers, eh? eh?

My first pair were a pair of Stanley Matthews specials - big brown toe caps and all with ankle guards...thank feck for Gola - my first decent pair!

Adidas Inter were my first. I then got the Santiago's. They were great boots but had such a stiff sole.

I used to love my Stubert trainers too. Until I got my Adidas Samba's.

Actually, I have a correction. My first were a pair of burgundy colour Stylo Matchmakers (I think). But, the great thing about them was that they were Steve Heighway boots. Signature and everything.

Ribery really has no contenders. Why the f*ck doesn't he get his teeth done? He can't even close his mouth properly.

To be fair to the lad, it was a horrible accident that left him that way - not born ugly like Chadwick, Ferdinand or Rooney.

It's not the scars with Ribery though. Did the accident smash his mouth? Serious question.

I'll tell you what, Plug's plastic surgeon is a complete genius. I can't believe it is the same bloke.

Shanks wore Gola in training. Stilo's were purple plus they were crap boots, I wore Puma 300's after a toss up between them and Power Points, remember them FYDS/NYR? For those under 50 they had numbers 1,2 and 3 on the heel, instep and toe with a booklet on how to kick a ball with 'power' across the sweet spot!!

Moved on to Adidas Gerd Muller's, Chauserre's ours which were allegedly made out of buffalo skin  and later to Puma Kenny Dalglish silver. But never ever pink....

think my second ever pair were gola, don't remember the name of them. might have been something like gola league, something simple, just remember them having a yellowy gold gola logo on the side and one of those weird stippled tongues that boots in the seventies and eighties had. first ever pair were definitely panther rapid from woolworth's when i was about five, think they cost one pound ninety-nine. first serious pair i ever had was age fifteen, puma's new maradona range released for the 1990 world cup. had a trial for the county so my mum paid about fifty quid for them. following year i think i got my first pair of adidas world cup and then never had any other boots apart from puma kings for about the next ten years.

A pair of white Pony with black laces, mate.

Crowd-pleaser of Major Lester first XI, ball-playing right back splashing through the mud of Stanley Park.

I was never sure if they were absolutely brilliant boots or if I'd been had off with some jarg make cos nobody else had heard of them either. And they were white. Only realised years later how boss they were. Must have cost a few quid them, like they said, after all. I could never make my mind up at the time. "Pele wears them.". "Who sez?". "Me dad.". "F*ck off.". "No you f*ck off."

Iirc, they were bought to make up for a big disappointment. I had my first full kit bought for me, in a box and everything with the socks and shorts all folded up. A Hitachi shirt it was. One of my uncles had been sent to London Road with his mate to get the boots and when I opened the bag and tried them on they were two left feet. They'd spent the money on sweets and floozies in town and nicked the boots from outside the shop and figured cos I was only a kid that it wouldn't really matter. Only got little feet, kids anyway, haven't they? Divvies. I was still trying to squeeze it on though. You do don't you? Kevin and Mickey got battered, btw.

Remember the Classic Alan Ball white boots with the revolving studs. I always liked the Adidas Beckebauer and the Puma King Pele myself. i just had a flashback to trying a pair on in Jack Sharp's circa 1970 as I type.

think i had a pair of mitre boots when i was about thirteen that had the supposed revolutionary new stud system in them, fifteen screw holes on the sole and came with fifteen short rubber studs for hard ground and about eight longer studs for soft, plus a load of little plastic discs that you screwed into the vacant holes when playing on soft ground. trouble was, they were sh*t. you just kept losing studs and discs and ended up with a weird mix of short and long studs on either foot. i do though remember playing against woodford lodge, school in nearby winsford who we barneyed with, and one lad who had the same boots putting running spikes into a couple of the vacant holes.

Who remembers Terry Cooper's boots and trainers? They were white with coloured dots on the toe, instep and outstep with the idea being that if you wanted a perfectly executed inswinger, you'd make sure you hit it with the blue dot! Surprisingly enough, they didn't catch on.
