New York Red Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Any update? When will he play for us? Is he worth the wait or are we better off assuming that he'll never do much for us?
Zoob Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I'd expect to see him in the league cup game against spurs. In terms of being worth the wait - is anyone really waiting or expecting much? Like most, I don't really know much about him other than he seems quick appears to be injury prone and looks better in attack than defence. Arbeloa is playing very well at the moment, and contributing well to both attack and defence, so unless he gets injured or dramatically loses form, I don't expect tosee much of Degen.

Id agree with all of that. The only thing is that Arbeloa will need a rest at some stage, and with Rafa seemingly not ready to trust Darby yet, the only other option at Right Back is Carra.
Will Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 It's quite pressing as Al is only one yellow card away from a one-match ban, and he does seem to pick them up quite quickly in this country
Guest Banjo Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 are we better off assuming that he'll never do much for us? If you think Arbeloa's bad in defence, Degen makes him look like Carra, Babbel, Nicol and Rob Jones all rolled into one! Good at making forward runs though (just a shame he doesn't realise than he's a RB rather than a RW and has to defend as well).
Scapegoat Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 If he can get himself fit i think he'll prove a very decent player for us.
Hassony Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 If you think Arbeloa's bad in defence, which idiot thinks Arbeloa is bad in defence?

Chili Palmer Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Dont bet on Darby getting a shout. why not, still bad feelings between Rafa and the academy?
Hassony Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 why not, still bad feelings between Rafa and the academy? Darby is the reserve captain
Guest Snorky Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 why not, still bad feelings between Rafa and the academy? There is unrest, the English lads feel they are not getting a fair shout. The Crewe game was an ideal chance to give more a game and some were expecting one.
Ben 23 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Darby should not play against Tottenham in any competition, would get absolutely bummed by Lennon.
Guest Snorky Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Darby should not play against Tottenham in any competition, would get absolutely bummed by Lennon. I disagree entirely, yes Lennon may get the better of him on occasions, but so will Darby get the better of Lennon.
Guest Ant Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Games like these are made for the likes of Darby (I.E Up and coming young ones)
Ben 23 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 (edited) Darby couldn't get the better of me in all honesty. He can't pass or cross and is fairly slow. Can't possibly make it as a premiership full back. So many ressies should, and I expect will, get a chance before him. Edited November 3, 2008 by Ben 23
carrafan Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 If there's anything Darby can do, its defend. If push came to shove, he wont prove to be a liability there as a defender.

Ben 23 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 He's the reserve team captain And that means he's the best player there?

Can't possibly make it as a premiership full back. So many ressies should, and I expect will, get a chance before him. He played really well against Villareal and they are better than 80% of the premiership teams From what I have seen of him he seems to be a very steady player, Not a standout but not many poor games either
Guest Ant Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 And that means he's the best player there? No it doesn't, what it does mean however is that he is obviously a very mature, clearly talented and the best RB in the reserves right now and has been for a while. If that doesn't warrant a chance I don't know what will.
Sion Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Darby shouldn't be given a chance just because he's local. There are much better players in the reserves who haven't got a look in i'd be more concerned about

Guest Ant Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Darby shouldn't be given a chance just because he's local. There are much better players in the reserves who haven't got a look in i'd be more concerned about The arguement isn't about whether he is local, the arguement is that we have clearly a talented RB who has yet to be given a chance in a position which will become available in a few weeks. Although fearing opening a can of worms, the fact that he is local should be encouraged as a good point considering we haven't had a local come through the ranks since Gerrard and to some extent Warnock.
carrafan Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 San JoseInsuaSpearingPacheco But right back seems to be the only position where a new player might be needed. That need will go away as well, the moment Degen becomes fit. We have enough players in central midfield, upfront and centrehalf. Left back seems to be identified as a potential problem position with no one wanting to trust Dossena but surely Rafa isnt going to play Insua (whose not looked great the few times i saw him play) over an 8 million worth Italian International fullback. And thats why Darby is the only player in reckoing at this point of time, IMO.
