Rafa has done very well in the transfer market to steadily build this squad.

You look at Fellaini going for £15 million and you have to marvel at Rafa going to speak personally to Mascherano to get him to sign for us. £18m is a bargain when you put him alongside Hargreaves or Fellaini but thats just one example. I remember being stunned at the price Craig Gordon for £9m, compare that to Reina.

There's loads of other examples of relative bargains in our squad.

Rafa has wheeled and dealed to get this squad, we've not spent much more net each season than we normally do. It's rafa's brilliance not the yanks that have made this squad.

The % of turnover we've spent on transfers per year will be around the same for Moores and G&H i'd hazard a guess at.

He approved Cisse for £14m and Heskey for £11m which were similar outlays given the prices which were being paid at the time.

But Paul Merson & Charlie Nicholas say that Rafa has spent fortunes on loads of players, none of whom are any good, and that we remain a 2 man team and that we are not as good as Arsenal who play beautiful football and win loads more trophies than us every season. I like how Rafa is building his squad. Mentality is his #1 thing. Doesn't hurt to have quality either, no?

The issue of the owners is a seperate issue for the most part. The question raised by this thread looks like, have they backed Rafa and his transfers. For the most part, the answer is yes. Regardless of money allocated or spent. Only Rafa knows if he's been told no.
