Apparently.

So what did we learn from Saturday?

How about: a scruffy Carling Cup win against Crewe with a scratch team counts for f*** all when it is sandwiched between wins over Man Utd and Everton in the league within a fortnight.

We also learned that a bunch of your 12 year olds and a bloke with 10 caps for Mexico running rings around a demoralised gang led by Chris Morgan(!) in the Carling Cup also counts for f*** all when your best team loses at home to Hull a few days later.

Anything else?

Yeah, the thought occured to me too, watching the Gooners limp off yesterday.

However, to early to be smug, especially whilst the 'embarassment' of a home draw with Stoke is so fresh in the memory.

Still, there were real signs yesterday that we can be a special team if we can really gel, and get some momentum going.

Everyone is a comedian.

What I learnt yesterday is that Torres is better than I thought he was...

don't trust them when they say you've got through to Day 2 of Boot Camp. they'll cut a third of you at a moment's notice, the heartless b******s.

aye

and if they ask you to step forward along with the ugly old bird whilst the fit lass stays in the row behind, don't wait for the verdict, take a walk.

Certainly not being smug. How many wouldn't have taken 7 points and into the next round of the Carling in advance of the last 4 games?

Even better that the point taken was by Stoke rather than either of the other two actually.

Fearing of opening a can of worms, I would agree, however I would have went for the Draw v the Mancs, as opposed to the draw v Stoke.

After going from a high point to a low point in the space of 7 days, I was fecking gutted, and it was Deja Vu. If we had beaten Stoke and Everton at least there would be some consistency and clear improvement IMO. As I said, it's all well and good beating Man United but if you can't beat Stoke and the likes then the league will be hard to challenge for never mind win.

As good as a start as it has been, we have been far from convincing in most of our games this season, we still have a few problems and I'm refusing to get carried away on a wave of hype.

I didn't mean you being smug mate, I meant all of us. Hard not to be after yesterday.

Aye

Felt good at my mates party yesterday. I think I angered a few of the Social Club's locals by singing the Torres Song, over and over, and over and over again.

And my mates come to think of it

Sorry, what hype is that?

Ive not read any hype from anyone, and certainly not anything resembling hype on here. Pretty much everyone is pleased with the way things have started but accepts a lot of our performances have been below what they need to be if we are to continue our start.

FFS. A win against Man U and a draw against Stoke gives us 4 pts and our title rivals (Man U) a maximum of 3 if they win their next game. A draw against Man U and a win against Stoke gives us 4 and them as much as 4. I know which one I prefer.

In fairness, I think he meant that he would have seen the 7 points coming from 2 wins and a draw against Utd.

I blame the Jedi teachers.

Winning the league, is the aim, the objective, the task etc It is what we should be aiming for. We are still in the running for it, but as you have agreed to, we need to get better. Yesterday was a cracking result and performance, but lets not get carried away. That was a s**** Everton side with no shots on goal pretty much throughout the whole match.

I have always felt many a time in the past that 'This would be our year' only to have our hopes dashed within weeks. Therefore I am refusing to give into temptation and be let down again.

I've explained my view on this many a time. So I won't repeat myself.

But I will say this, we really should have beaten Stoke

as Nerik says, that would put the Mancs one point ahead of where they are now.

True, but if we drop points to teams like Stoke at home, as I have said, it would make such results meaningless.

Alot of the time this season it feels as if alot of the problems that we have had in recent seasons have been coming back to haunt us in one way or another.

we should have beaten Stoke. and we shouldn't get carried away.

but drawing with Stoke in no way makes the defeat of the Mancs meaningless. taking the 7 points in the way you describe would have left us worse off than we are now.

Agreed. I had already make clear I would rather Stoke steal points than Man Utd.

I was trying to elucidate what the Jedi-taught one was actually trying to say. Schoolboy error on my part.

except it doesn't - as has just been explained to you

over and above all that it's Man Utd - of course i'd rather beat them than Stoke

again, who is getting carried away?

you seem to spend a lot of time talking our chances down and telling people to calm down but where are the people who are getting carried away?
