he has proved to be a good 'keeper wherever he has been, except us!

I think he was thrown in at the wrong time, and looked very nervoust on his debut (at Villa Park?).

If he had shown good form for us and stayed I think we could have bene more succesful under GH than we were.

Houllier never liked him for some reason. Think he never got a chance after the 2-0 McAteer "handball" game at OT.

Always thought he was a good goalie.

Not sure why you think we would have been better off with Friedel under GH. I for one rate Dudek higher than Friedel any day of the week (ie Dudek a few years back vs. Friedel during the same time). I actually thought Westerveld was a more than decent keeper as well, still don't think our problems during the GH era was very much down to the keepers.

He was certainly always a lot better than many would have us believe from back then.

Standards are a lot higher here than elsewhere and mistakes at Blackburn or Portsmouth or whoever don't get national covrage. The likes of James and Friedel are the same players they were when they were with us, it's just that the stakes are lower for them now.

Correct.

Friedel made some right howlers toward the end of last season, while James continued to make them about as often as he normally does, in International matches too.

I can't think of many Friedel blunders for us, he always looked nervous and didn't shine, did he make any glaring mistakes like our other recent keepers? Admittedly he didn't play too many games but he was hard done by IMO.

Dudek was excellent first year (and obv Istanbul) but hardly outstanding for large parts of his time with us.

We've got some collection of ex-keepers in the Prem now.

Friedel, Carson, Kirkland, James.... they're everywhere.

Half the league have played for us as some point, I'd say.

Warner's at Hull too.

i've lost count of the number of times i've seen friedel on highlights being the difference between blackburn winning and losing. he gets an awful lot of motm's for them.

Blackburn are a decent bet for relegation, I think.

hmmm. interesting that. wouldn't even have considered that before now.

i reckon ince might do alright though, if he can hang on to his forward line and make good use of the money he's likely to get for bentley.

i wonder how they'll fare in the transfer market. friedel is more of a blow than bentley for them, particularly given the small fee the former has commanded.

If they lose Friedel, Santa Cruz & Bentley (all very possible) then they are probably their three best players.

I wouldn't trust Ince to sign top quality - he might, but I think the price on them being relegated could be tempting.

Friedel was awful. Always remember him getting beaten by a 20 yard looping header against Spurs.

Neilsen in the Worthington Cup. We were utter s*** that night.

God that was miserable.

Terrible performance topped off with an injury to Owen's hamstring.

I don't think Friedal has made a habit of dropping clangers.

If you're gonna be in action that much, you can't expect to be howler-free, but it's not like he's been anywhere near the standards of Robinson or James.

He's been consistently excellent for Blackburn, which is annoying, as he was nowhere near that quality for us.

He got it whilst scoring a concilation goal as well didn't he?

I had the piss ripped out of me the next day at school it was horrific.

Yep, on the stroke of half time if I remember rightly. Or could have been full time.

Was the end for Evans and Houllier together that night.

It was full time. We were already 3-0 down.

Yeah I remember us being 3-0 but had a horrible feeling that they may even have been at half time...

I think it might have been 2-0 at half time. I remember we hit the bar with a header in the first half at 0-0 and they went straight down the other end and scored from a header. We then just collapsed. A terrible evening.
