Was in just me or has Insua bulked up? Anyway, I'm hoping he'll take the next step. Pacheco looked class on Saturday but I've thought that about many that have faded into obscurity. Ain't seen enough of Nemeth and don't think Hobbs/Plessis have got what it takes.

I'd like to say one of the strikers - Nemeth most likely of the two - however I suspect Insua will get the most time on the pitch out of those you mentioned.

Guess it depends on who else we sign this summer.

Nemeth is exciting, as is Pacheco.

Would like to see them used similarily to Sinama and Mellor by Rafa. I think at least Nemeth is a better player than Mellor.

Bruna is also one to watch I suspect.

Krisztian Nemeth scored the only goal of the game to help Hungary beat Bulgaria 1-0 in their opening game of the UEFA Under-19 European Championships in the Czech Republic on Monday.

The reserves hot-shot scored in the 10th minute when he showed a good turn of pace to race on to a long ball before producing a crisp finish beyond the reach of Ivan Karadjov and into the far corner of the net.

Including the qualifiers, it was Nemeth's sixth goal of the competition, making him joint top scorer. He was replaced by Liverpool teammate Andras Simon in the 88th minute, while fellow Red Peter Gulacsi was outstanding in goal.

Meanwhile, Mikel San Jose played the full 90 minutes as holders Spain suffered a defeat in their opening match when they lost 2-1 to Germany.

San Jose will come up against Nemeth in what should be an intriguing confrontation on Thursday when Spain play Hungary in their next match.

Goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis was an unused substitute as Greece were denied a win in their first game as Italy grabbed a 90th minute penalty to earn a 1-1 draw.

Bouzanis seems to be keeping his options open, last I saw he was part of the Australian Olympic squad.

I don't understand why quite a few don't think Plessis will make it - great footballing brain, can pick a pass, rarely wstes the ball and can tackle - is it just because he's tall and skinny?

Pacheco is a bundle of tricks - again, can picka a pass, great intelligence and can shoot with power and accuracy, defyly chip etc. Has plenty of guts.

Insua is almost there IMO - I can see him being very good indeed with a bit of luck and a run.

Nemeth may get the odd game, end of season, Carling etc all being well - another gutsy, intelligent player with skill and a genuine eye for goal - already has a few trademark shots in his locker.

Hobbs - dunno...could be solid if unspectacular. I can see Ronald Huth passing him in the pecking order in the not too distant future if things carry on and develop respectively as they are.

Martin has the makings of a really good keeper and if we can keep hold of him, would be a fine eventual replacement for Pepe at some point - Pepe is still young though, so you fear it may take a loss of form for Martin to make the shirt his own rather than 'the fullness of time'.

They are the most obvious ones - there are a few others less obvious who may yet make an impression. Mind you, there is some very promising material in the Academy team.

As people have said, it's hard to know who'll make an impact first. I think the one who'll make the biggest impact long term is Nemeth though, the lad has class in abundance. His finishing is top drawer and his all-round game is coming on leaps and bounds. He could be a top player for us in years to come.

Of the others I think San Jose could well be in that class too, I don't think I've seen him have a bad game, he's just a natural defender who's comfortable on the ball. I wouldn't mind him going on loan to a Championship side for a few months this season if they offered him first team football.

Insua has loads of potential, but I think the signing of Dossena will affect his chances of getting in the first team. He still has a tendecny to bomb on a bit too much and gets caught in possession too often, he's a good prospect though.

One name I haven't seen mentioned is Francisco Duran, I haven't seen that much of him, but he's supposed to be very highly rated at Melwood, Ablett was singing his praises at the end of last season. The poor lad has been cursed with injuries since he joined, but hopefully he can get his fitness sorted and make an impact next year.

I think we might see a bit of El Zhar and Leto too. People have slated the two of them, but I think Leto has something about him. They might not ever make it here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them make it on the bench a bit next season.

I think Pacheco is still a year or two (and a stone or two) away from making an impact on the first team, but the fact he's now training with the first team must indicate how highly Rafa rates him.

Where is the best place to track how these kids are doing Fyds?

The official site shows the reserve and academy games on LFC TV via the e-season ticket and The Liverpool Way do fairly regular match reports for both as well.

Do we still have that Bulgarian goalkeeper?

Yep - currently on loan - we also have an Aussie Keeper and Hungarian keeper at the academy. The Hungarian kid, Peter Galacsi looks a bit odd, build wise but he's very strong and good at coming for the ball.

i really can't se it with leto from the little i've sen of him. i don't watch the ressie matches admittedly but each time he's appeared in the firsts he's looked a bit clumsy and cumbersome.

He now seems to be Greek, at least until the Olympics.

Yeah, he looked a bit shy of the ball in the first team in the few games he had, he was really good in the reserves though. Strong, decent dribbler and a sweet left foot. Paddy Berger basically. I think his passport problems might see him loaned out though. Apparently the Home Office have been looking into fake Argie-Italian passports and in cooperation with agencies around Europe are investigating 150 footballers.

Nemeth is a brilliant finisher with a great football brain and excellent technique, and I think he's capable of doing great things. Those natural instincts he has are incredibly rare and valuable.

I think he needs more than reserve football this year, he really stood out at that level last season and I think it is quite demotivating for a young player to find themselves still there again the following season.

For me he needs either to play in the Carling and get a spot on the bench here and there, or go out on loan to The Championship for some competitive first team football, to see how he does at that level. Insua is the same, I don't think another season of reserve team football would benefit him at all but his first team chances depend on Aurelio.

Insua and Nemeth are both about 19 years old, which I think is an age these lads should have been exposed to first team football by. Reserve team football doesn't provide the same motivation and the spark for these lads' careers. Pacheco on the other hand is a couple of years younger and I think in his case would benefit from a full season with the reserves.

He's more of a skilful, 'between the lines' forward who can create something out of nothing but as Maldini said he has some growing to do. He only played in fits and starts for the second string last year so I think being first choice for the reserves this season would be the right step forward in his case.

I would love to see Pacheco given some first team games this season, I think he will be a great surprise package to the rest of the league

I always though El Zhar would break through in a big way, but that looks more and more unlikely.

he was injured last season but came back towards the end and was excellent in the reserve final against a strong Villa team, also scored on his debut for Morroco

I'd pick San Jose to make it out of the center backs as well, ahead of Huth and Hobbs. Insua will get games this year in the first team. Nemeth and Pacheco are the two closest out of the attacking players, I expect they'll get some games from the bench and in the cups (unless they go out on loan).

Another player I like who hasn't been mentioned yet is Ryan Flynn. I think he's a really intelligent player, he could get some games. We definitely need a Scot in the first team ;).

Plessis...can pick a pass, rarely wastes the ball...

This isn't really true though is it, and that is why many people will think he won't make it. I understand you watch a lot of reserve football (I think it's you?) and so do I, so without considering his first team games towards the end of last season, at reserve level he gave the ball away far too often. Maybe he can often pick the pass and go for the 40 yard cross field raking pass but nine times out of ten it won't come off for him. He's much better off keeping it simple as he did when given an opportunity against Arsenal, but for the ressies I've seen him put many a 5 yard pass out of play.

He might make it for a while because as Momo proved you can do alright in his role with mainly just physical attributes, as Momo also proved though you can only succeed for so long at that level with a lack of ability on the ball.

I wouldn't write him off completely, I'd just say he need to improve on the ball, much more so then Nemeth, Insua or Pacheco (and many others reserves that won't make it)

As for the other kids I'd suggest Nemeth needs first team football next season and Insua too, maybe on loan at lower Premiership/Championship clubs. They are too old for another season in the reserves but they won't get enough first team football here to make it worth while. I think they both have all the ability needed to make at it this level with there only drawbacks are that they both lack a yard of pace in my opinion. Pacacho should play a full season for the reserves and if he does he will be top scorer in that league no doubt. Give him a few league cup games as well.

I heard Stoke were in for El Zhar?

I like Insua, but fear he's moved further down the pecking order, with Dossena, Aurelio, and even Arbeloa possibly ahead of him.

How did he move down the order? Dossena will be first choice and Insua and Aurillio will fight it out for a back up, I think Arbeloa will be the first choice RB

He was already behind two (Riise & Aurelio) and still is (Dossena & Aurelio). Add to that Arebeloa played a few games at left back also, that makes him 4th choice last season and "possibly" 4th choice this season.

He hasn't moved down, just not necessarily moved up.
