Arsenal travel to Old Trafford at the weekend - and as much as I would love them to come away with 3 points - or even 1 - we have to accept that Arsenal will be absolutely destroyed - they might play pretty football that (apparantly) people love to watch - but as a football team in the results business - they have a tiny, tiny squad, no resiliance and no ability to win these kinds of games.

I can absolutely see a ridiculous scoreline at Old Trafford and will be suprised if Manchester United don't put 5, 6 or even 7 goals past their non-existant defence.

It'll be little toddlers against men - and I'm gutted that I'm saying that.

They just haven't got it in them - but don't worry - Wenger will excuse himself and his team again by claiming they should have had 4 penalties.

Whatever happens Wenger will spend BIG in the summer and bring in some quality players to strengthen his club. He hasn't used money available to him in the past few seasons but this time he will. The likes of Senderos and Hoyt will be gone and then Wenger will have a very good balance of youth and experience to build on. I think they are just lacking a little experience and a stronger squad and then they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Most on here wrote Arsenal off before the start of the season. It was a question, well not a question but more of a statement of fact that Spurs would take the fourth CL spot and Arsenal would drop to 5th or 6th.

So this small squad of young talent takes the league by storm and is still in with a chance come March, gets to the CL quarter Final and now these same people who did not give them a hope in hell at the start feel they have the right to ridicule one of the most entertaining sides this year.

Is it really just a nervous reaction? In your nervous state did you miss the fact that they are still above you in the league?

For a part of that game last night they made your team look second rate. For a couple of minutes when they scored the second goal they made you all feel very sick. Wenger had a moan just like any other manager would, it was funny the fact that you got what was considered a more dubious penalty when it seemed Arsenal could not buy one. If you had lost the only thing you would be guessing at would be who Rafa would blame.

Congratulations. You won and deservedly so in the end.

I hope to Christ that Chelsea manage to sort you out in the semi final because if we manage to get through to the final the strain and stress and worry involved with a final against your lot will probably cause me a f***ing heart attack.

BTW I know this thread is Andy but I felt like saying a few words anyway.

Arsenal have certainly entertained me for the last 12 games.

 Knowing you, thats when you started watching their matches.

Did you know that United play quite entertaining football as well? Nope I thought not, you never watch them either well, except when they lose. You must win a lot at the bookies.

I don't think that Arsenal are much different from us this season. They still have to play you away from home and when they lose that, the difference will be marginal.

Blah blah penalty aside and looking at the long term view, we've underperformed and they've overperformed, yet come the end of the season there's not likely to be much between us.

I dont think there will be much difference. For info, I thought it was a penalty, just, but you can see why Wenger was upset a bit.

When you say Liverpool have underperformed should you have added "again"

We always have to stop and stand there awestruck when we contemplate your overachieving record in European Competition.

Only Nottingham Forest can match you in your European prowess.

We are humbled by your greatness.

IMO, Man U play the best football in the league. Their passing is just as good as Arsenals but theres always an end product and they always f***ing win. Arsenal's amazing start to the season was their own downfall in a way. If they'd been around the same number of points as us now and been a bit more inconsistent at the start of the season the season would still have been seen as a success - a growing side with bags of potential again qualifying for the Champions league. Then in the summer they could have bought a few more top quality players and really gone for it next season. They built themselves up just to bring themselves down, so to speak.

That being said, I think Arsenal will seriously challenge next season and probably win it.

We in comparison play alot more direct but the joy of seeing Torres and Gerrard score some blinders and some massive wins coupled with our ongoing dominance in the champions league is just as pleasing on the eye as one touch passing between Hleb and Flamini.

It really is a joy to see Arsenal play the kind of football they did the first 20 minutes yesterday. The difference between their control of the ball and, say Dirk Kuyts, was shocking. He played ok in the 2nd half though. a*** is still a good side, only they are a tad lightweight when the going gets tough.

It's curious when you think of how mentally tough some of Wenger's sides have been over the years and yet this one just don't seem to have it. Yes some of their players are still quite young, but they've been together as a group for about 3 years now and Wenger doesn't seem to have instilled any backbone into them yet.

That's the point though. We were made to look like complete amateurs for the first 20 minutes, but we stuck in and came back. We went a goal down at the Emirates, stuck in, and came back.

After we scored, (and then Torres) they looked absolutely spent. It took a moment of genius from Walcott to change that; not a 'team mentality'. They scored a goal that, with 5 minutes remaining, would have taken them through.

So we stuck in harder and won it.

Stuck. In.

..but they are 8 points ahead of us in the league..

And out on their Arsenal in the European Cup.

8 points in the league with 5 to play or two seasons ahead of them in the league, two European cup finals and a chance of a third...

if we win the league this year (HH) and then again for the next two years*, i would honestly expect Andy to finally say the league is not important and that the only way to judge a team is how they do is the European cup. Hed still be fooling no-one though...not even himself.

The European Cup is the greatest thing a club can win, of course they are judged if they win it. Just like teams that consistently win the league are judged if they don't win the European Cup.

Thats your opinion, i think your domestic league is the greatest thing you can win and that should be the aim of all clubs at the start of every season, this should be the only qualification for getting into the European cup, we shouldnt have been able to win it in 99 and you shouldnt have been able to win it in 2005....

the idea that a club can call itself the champions of europe while not being able to win their own league has devalued it to a certain degree...it should be done the way you won your first four European cups or we won our first...it should be the icing on the cake not the sponge and cream & jammy middle bit too.

Shankly always called the league the bread and butter*

*I say always, it was in an interview I saw of him
