According to the Echo today Sami and Crouch will be offered new contracts.

Wonder if Crouch will accept one? He's been playing lesser than before.

He's only being offered one to up his price in the summer...

Which also means that when we reach an agreement on his outstanding contract we'll have to pay him more to go?????

What if he says "No thanks I'll stick this one out til the end ta" ??

His feet get put in concrete and he gets slung in the Mersey

Lordy Lord

Sami - yes

Crouch - a defo no no IMO

Would suggest one of Kuyt or Voronin are off - or, worryingly, he's happy with his strikers and is going to spend on wide players/defenders

First Masch now Sami and Crouch. Hmmm

Whether Crouch signs a new deal or not he needs shifting out in the summer though.

hmmmm what dude?

His target at the start of the season was 60 goals from his 4 strikers. If he gets that he may think he's getting what he needs upfront

I think at the moment they're on about 42

Just wondering why suddenly we're now trying to sort out the futures of certain players. Whether something behind the scenes has changed. Even if it's something we'd view as negative, such as Hicks okaying all this

Reading something that isn't there probably though

Crouch is at that stage when he can buy out his contract and move on.

Maybe by offering a contract it's damage limitation. Just because he's been offered one, does not mean that he'll sign it.

New deals for Reds duo

Mar 1 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

Peter Crouch

LIVERPOOL are ready to offer new contracts to both Peter Crouch and Sami Hyypia.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is looking to tie the pair down to new deals in a bid to ward off growing interest in them from clubs at home and abroad.

Despite approaching his 35th birthday, Hyypia has been one of Liverpool's star performers this season and Benitez is keen to reward the long-serving Finn by offering him an extension which would see him clock up a decade of service at Anfield.

Newcastle, Bolton and Fulham are all interested in signing Hyypia but Benitez has acted quickly to give him the chance to remain at the club he joined for a bargain £2.5m in 1999.

Hyypia recently spoke of his desire to stay at Anfield despite being aware of interest from other clubs and it would be a major surprise if he was to decline an offer from Liverpool.

Crouch's situation is more complicated as he in the last 18 months of his current deal and, having been in and out of the starting line-up this season, it is unclear whether he will be prepared to commit his long term future to the club.

Under the terms of a recent landmark legal case which has had massive implications for players contracts, Crouch will this summer be in a position to take advantage of Article 17 of FIFA's regulations on the status and transfer of players.

This rule allows players under the age of 28 who have served three years of a four or five year contract to effectively hand in their notice and move to another club.

Players over 28 can take advantage of the ruling after just two years of their contract.

Crouch, 27, will finish the third year of his four-year deal at the end of this season and, as such, would therefore be able to move elsewhere if he is prepared to quit Liverpool and pay them compensation.

Benitez is ready to test just how happy Crouch is at Liverpool and a formal contract offer is expected to be made imminently.

With this activity - Skrtel in January, Masch the other day, and Crouch and Sami now signing.. looks like things have been sorted at the top and Rafa will get at least another year?

Posted

Sami's deserved it. I don't see the problem with Crouch being offered one. Maybe it's an indication that he's going to start a whole load more for the rest of the season.

Derek may as well become a midfielder

As long as Kuyt and Voronin get shipped out in the summer and some proper strikers get brough in, i'm not that bothered about Crouch staying. Useful option.

thats how I read it too. Sami to provide stability next year whilst Skrtel settles in and we are sure Agger is fully recovered and Carra gets rotated. Gives us time to focus on the wings and up front. Then, keep Crouch, who even at 29 would bring decent money because he is english and dump Kuyt and Voronin and get a decent striker, promote Nemeth.

If we renew crouch's contract, he is here for next season I reckon.

My opinion would be to keep crouch who even though wont win us the title as our main foward is a really good option of the bench and in a squad rotation.

sell voronin and kuyt.

Buy a proven striker to compliment Torres maybe someone like Berbatov who can hold up the ball and get others in the game.

Then play Babel more as a foward and give some minutes to one of the up and coming youngsters such as Nemeth.
